Empoli, 20th with 0 points and a negative goal difference of -13
Salernitana, 17th position with 3 points and a negative goal difference of -5

It’s party time!  Empoli won the Serie A Week 6 game on Wednesday 27 September 2023 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. The victory helped Empoli to climb from the last position to the 19th position.  Empoli, finally, got their first victory this season.    Empoli is the first team in history that has not been able to win points or score in the first 5 seasonal matches of a Serie A championship – the Tuscans in general have not found the goal in the top tournament since the one in injury time against Verona on 28 May 2023 (540 minutes without scoring).

Empoli opened the score in the 34th minute. Tommaso Baldanzi defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa from very close range with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Matteo Cancellieri.

✅  Stats before the game: Empoli remained unbeaten in five of the six matches against Salernitana in Serie A (2W, 3D) – in these six matches in the top division both teams have always found the goal (22 in total, 3.7 on average per match). Perfect balance in the three top-flight matches played at the Castellani between Empoli and Salernitana: a success for each side and a draw, with five total goals for each side (in the last one the Tuscans won 2-1 on 8 May 2023 ). Salernitana has not yet found success in this championship (3D, 2L): previously, even in two of the four previous participations in Serie A they ended the first six matches of the season without a win (in 1998/99 and in 2021/22) . Salernitana is the team that has drawn the most away games since the beginning of 2023 in Serie A: seven out of 13 (1W, 5P).

👉 Lineup EMPOLI (4-3-1-2): Berisha; Bereszynski, Walukiewicz, Luperto, Pezzella; Grassi, Fazzini, Maleh; Baldanzi; Cancellieri, Shpendi.

👉 Lineup SALERNITANA (3-4-2-1): Ochoa; Lovato, Gyomber, Pirola; Mazzocchi, Martegani, Maggiore, Bradaric; Kastanos, Candreva; Cabral.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 6th position with 9 points and a positive goal difference of +5
Hellas Verona, 10th position with 7 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Atalanta won the Serie A Week 6 game on Wednesday 27 September 2023 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. This is the third consecutive victory for Atalanta – also considering the Europa League . With this, Gasperini’s team overtakes Lecce and moves to -1 behind Juventus who occupy third place (13 points). A Verona that doesn’t win but convinces. It is the second defeat for the Venetians who haven’t scored since September 1st against Sassuolo. Intense and very physical match until the last lap of the clock. Atalanta takes home the three points with a Verona team that never gave up. Koopmeiners broke the deadlock in the first half, scoring for the third consecutive year at Bentegodi.

In the second half, the yellow-blue team persisted in search of the equalizer, also trying to take advantage of the various free kicks available. At the end, Gasperini’s team had the most sensational opportunities: first De Ketelaere, then Ederson, they ate the second goal.

And the next one will be a challenge between third and fourth place, Atalanta will host Juventus on Sunday. For Hellas Verona, the appointment is in Turin against Juric’s Granata in the postponement on Monday.

Atalanta opened the score in the 13th minute. Teun Koopmeiners defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Marten de Roon.

Stats before the game: Atalanta have won four of the last five matches against Verona in Serie A (1L), as many successes as in the previous 14 matches against the Scaligeri in the tournament (4W, 3D, 7L). Atalanta have achieved four successes in five away games against Verona in Serie A (1N) with Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm, winning all three of the most recent games – after having recorded five defeats in a row at the Bentegodi against the Scaligeri in the tournament. Verona have not found the net in their last two Serie A matches and have not gone at least three consecutive games without scoring since March 2023, against Roma, Fiorentina and Spezia. After the 0-0 draw in the last match at the Bentegodi against Bologna, Verona could draw two home games in a row in Serie A for the first time since May 2021 (three in that case with Ivan Juric at the helm). Atalanta have not drawn any of their last 13 league matches (8W, 5L), the last “X” sign of the Goddess in Serie A dates back to 17 April against Fiorentina (1-1).

👉  Lineup Hellas Verona:  Montipò, Magnani, Hien, Dawidowicz, Faraoni, Hongla, Folorunsho, Terracciano, Ngonge, Duda, Bonazzoli.

👉  Lineup Atalanta: Carnesecchi, Toloi, Djimsiti, Kolašinac, Holm, de Roon, Éderson, Ruggeri, Koopmeiners, Pašalić, Lookman.

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 3rd position with 12 points and a positive goal difference of +3
Cagliari, 19th position with 2 points and a negative goal difference of -5

Cagliari collapsed! AC Milan won the Serie A Week 6 game on Wednesday 27 September 2023 in Cagliari, Italy to climb from the relegation zone. AC Milan needed the victory to go back to the 2nd position with 15 points overtaking Juventus with 13 points. Cagliari reacted in the second half with the addition of Oristanio’s verve but in the home team’s best moment, Loftus-Cheek closed the match with a powerful and precise low shot and the Rossoneri managed until the end.

On the seventh day, Ranieri is expected to face Fiorentina as a former player while Pioli’s boys will host Lazio.

Cagliari opened the score in the 28th minute. Zito Luvumbo defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Sportiello with a left footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Nahitan Nández.

AC Milan equalized in the 40th minute. Noah Okafor defeated Cagliari goalkeeper Boris Radunović from very close range with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Bad news for Cagliari. AC Milan overturned the result and took the lead in the 45th minute. Fikayo Tomori scored from very close range with a right footed shot to the center following a corner conceded by Boris Radunovic.

The Rossoneri got their inspiration. In the 60th minute, there it is another goal. Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Christian Pulisic.

✅    Stats before the game: Milan is the team against which Cagliari has lost the most games in Serie A: 45 out of 80, completing the balance with eight Sardinian victories and 27 draws. Cagliari have won only one of the last 37 matches against Milan in Serie A (8N, 28P): 2-1 at Sant’Elia on 28 May 2017. More in detail, the Rossoneri have achieved six successes in the last seven matches against Sardinians in the top flight, conceding just one goal in the period. Milan have won their last three away games against Cagliari in Serie A without conceding a goal; the Rossoneri have never achieved four consecutive away successes against the Sardinians and have never even recorded four away clean sheets in a row against the Rossoblù in the tournament. Cagliari have scored only one goal in this championship, in their history in Serie A only in 2008/09 (with Allegri on the bench) had they scored one or fewer goals in the first five matches of the season in the tournament – in the sixth in that case the Sardinians drew 0-0 against Milan. Cagliari have won only one of their last 10 Serie A home games (D3, L6): 1-0 v Sassuolo on 16 April 2022. Furthermore, the Sardinians have not scored in the first two matches at the Unipol Domus this season and they could remain without a goal in all their first three home games of the season for the first time in a Serie A tournament.

👉 Lineup CAGLIARI (4-4-2): Radunović; Zappa, Wieteska, Dossena, Hatzīdiakos; Nández, Makoumbou, Sulemana, Augello; Petagna, Luvumbo.

👉 Lineup AC MILAN (4-3-3): Sportiello; Florenzi, Thiaw, Tomori, Hernández; Loftus-Cheek, Adli, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Okafor, Pulisic.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 3rd position with 11 points and a positive goal difference of +4
Juventus, 4th position with 10 points and a positive goal difference of +5

Juventus won the Serie A Week 6 game on Tuesday 26 September 2023 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy. Juventus, not without difficulty, snatched the 3 points in the midweek match against Lecce thanks to Arkadiusz Milik’s goal. The match goal came in the 57th minute thanks to an aerial pass from Rabiot for a pass from Milik, well placed on the right post. At the end, Lecce remained with 10 players in the 93rd minute, Mohamed Kaba was sent off, punished with a second yellow card after a simulation in the penalty area.

Nevertheless, Lecce remain the revelation team of the championship so far: the team led by D’Aversa are among the top 6 teams with 11 points, thanks to victories against Genoa, Salernitana and Lazio, as well as draws with Fiorentina and Monza.

Juventus can forget the shocking defeat suffered three days ago at the Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo 4-2.

Federico Chiesa has reached 100 appearances for Juventus. Fede reached triple figures on the occasion of Juventus-Lecce.

Juventus opened the score in the 57th minute. Arkadiusz Milik defeated Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone from very close range with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Adrien Rabiot.

✅   Stats before the game: Lecce have won just one of their last 14 matches against Juventus in the top flight (3D, 10L), 2-0 on 20 February 2011, with goals from Djamel Mesbah and Andrea Bertolacci. For the first time in the history of the top championship, the Salento team will meet the Piedmont team with the most points in the standings. Juventus scored an average of 2.6 goals per game in the 17 home matches against Lecce in Serie A, in which they achieved 12 wins, four draws and only one defeat (3-4 on 25 April 2004). Juventus have won all of their last five matches played on Tuesdays in Serie A, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two. For the first time in its history, Lecce started a Serie A championship without losing a single match of the first five (W3, D2) and collected its new record of points (11) after the first five rounds; the Giallorossi in the 22/23 championship reached 11 points on the fourteenth matchday (12 points in that case precisely, thanks to the victory over Atalanta). Lecce have remained unbeaten in their last four away games in the championship (W1, D3): only twice in Serie A have the Salento players recorded a longer streak without defeat away from home in Serie A, between January and March 2004 (six) and between April and September 2001 (six).

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Serie A Week 5 RESULTS / Fifth Round on Friday 22, Saturday 23, and Sunday 24 September 2023.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has arranged a minute’s silence to be observed before the start of the matches of all the competitions scheduled for the weekend to remember and honor Giorgio Napolitano, President Emeritus of the Italian Republic, who passed away today in Rome at the age of 98.  Napolitano died on Friday 22 September.   In 2006, a few weeks after his election, Napolitano was present in Berlin for the final that crowned Italy World Champion.

The David and Goliath clash.  Inter, the Goliath, defeated  Empoli remaining in the last position without points. On the other hand, Inter have won all of their first five matches in a Serie A season for the fourth time in their history, after 2019/20 with Antonio Conte, 2015/16 with Roberto Mancini and 1966/67 with Helenio Herrera as coach.

AC Milan climbed from the 4th to the 2nd position after defeating Hellas Verona thanks to the goal by Rafael Leao.

Lecce defeated Genoa and got the third position.   Lecce got their third victory this season and without losing a game, yet.

Step back is for Juventus losing their first game this season defeated by Sassuolo with a 4-2.   Juventus went down from the 3rd to the 4th position. It is a prestigious victory and a thriller game!   After a good start by Juventus,  it ended with a total disaster.  Sassuolo took the lead with Armand Laurientè thanks to Szczesny’s error. The Bianconeri, led by Chiesa, find the equalizer favored by the number 7 who puts a ball in the middle and finds the unfortunate deflection from Matías Viña. In the final, Domenico Berardi lights up and scores the goal for the new lead with a great left-footed shot from the edge of the area.

Lazio failed to win at the Olimpico ended with a 1-1 draw against Monza.   Ciro Immobile converted a penalty for Lazio.  Gagliardini equalized for Monza. This is a tough defeat because Lazio have only 4 points getting closer to the relegation zone.  Monza are in a better position with 5 points.

Tough news for AS Roma failing to defeat Torino.  Roma and Torino ended with a 1-1 draw which is not what Roma needed to climb the Standings.  Roma are not even without the top 10 positions, but down to the 13th position with just 5 points.  The good news is for Torino because they reached the 9th position with 8 points.
