The David and Goliath clash.  Inter, the Goliath, won the Serie A Week 5 game on Sunday 24 September 2023 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy.   Empoli remained in the last position without points. On the other hand, Inter have won all of their first five matches in a Serie A season for the fourth time in their history, after 2019/20 with Antonio Conte, 2015/16 with Roberto Mancini and 1966/67 with Helenio Herrera as coach.

Inter got the victory thanks to the goal by Federico Di Marco in the 51st minute. Di Marco defeated Empoli goalkeeper Etrit Berisha with a left-footed shot to the top right corner following a corner conceded by Berisha.

✅     Stats before the game: Empoli have lost 23 of 30 matches against Inter in Serie A (W4, D3), against no team have the Tuscans suffered more defeats in the tournament (23 also against Roma). Inter have won 14 of the last 16 games against Empoli in the league (1N, 1L), scoring 32 goals (exactly two on average per match) and recording 10 clean sheets in the period. Inter have kept a clean sheet in their last eight away games against Empoli in the league, already a record run of clean sheets in a row for a single club away from home against another Serie A opponent – ​​the Tuscan club’s latest goal at Castellani against the Nerazzurri bears the signature of Marco Materazzi (29-metre own goal on 30 April 2006). Torino and AS Roma failed to win the Serie A Week 5 ending with a draw at the Olimpico Stadium in Turin, Italy. Roma had a very complicated start and are below the top 10 positions. Torino joined Frosinone and Napoli with 8 points, while Roma moved to 5 points like Monza, one point above Lazio and Genoa.

Surely, a difficult match for both teams, who based the match on physical play and long balls. The goals both arrive in the second half: in the 68th minute Lukaku receives in the area with his back to goal, pivots on Buongiorno and displaces Milinkovic-Savic with his left foot. The equalizer came in the 89th minute, with Ilic taking a free kick on the left midfield and crossing towards the far post where Zapata was quicker than everyone else and with his header displaces Rui Patricio, finding the equalizer.
Duvan Zapata responds to Romelu Lukaku and allows Torino to take a point against Roma.

Torino have won 8 points in five matchdays, thanks to two wins and 2 draws. A week ago the 3-0 against Salernitana arrived, with Radonjic unleashed: the Serbian attacking midfielder scored a brace and reached three goals in the championship.

Napoli failed to win the Serie A Week 5 game ending with a draw against Bologna on Sunday 24 September 2023 at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy. Lazio and Monza ended the Serie A Week 5 game with a draw on Saturday 23 September 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Monza celebrated their first goal -ever- against Lazio. Lazio was the only team, among those faced in Serie A, against which Monza had never scored a single goal, until now. It all happened in the first half. Ciro Immobile opened the score from the penalty spot in the 12th minute, Roberto Gagliardini scored the equalizer in the 36th minute. We might say it is a step back for Lazio who were looking for the victory remaining with only 4 points, one eblow Monza.

In the next round of the championship for Lazio at home against Torino, Monza will face Bologna at home.

Lazio opened the score in the 12th minute. Forward Ciro Immobile converted a penalty in the 12th minute defeating Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty is conceded by Patrick Ciurria after a foul on Mattia Zaccagni.

Monza equalized in the 36th minute. Roberto Gagliardini defeated Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

✅   Stats before the game: Lazio is the only team – among those faced in Serie A – against which Monza has not yet scored a single goal: two victories for the Biancocelesti in two matches last season (1-0 at the Olimpico and 2-0 at the U- Power Stadium). Until now, Monza has lost both of its Serie A matches played at the Olympic Stadium without scoring: 1-0 against Lazio and 3-0 against Roma; in general against teams from the Lazio region, the Brianza team has also always conceded at least one goal (out of four matches played). Not since 2014/15 with Stefano Pioli on the bench (even in that case only three points won) has Lazio started a championship with so few points collected in the first four rounds played; in that championship then on the fifth day there was a round 4-0 win over Palermo.
Monza are coming off three consecutive away defeats in the league and in their short history in Serie A they have never collected four away defeats in a row; the Brianza players haven’t even scored in their last two away games in the competition and have never played three consecutive away games without scoring. Lazio lost their last home match in Serie A and with Sarri on the bench they have never collected two home defeats in a row in the league: the last time dates back to December 2020, when Simone Inzaghi was coaching.

Mission accomplished! Sassuolo needed to win the Serie A Week 5 game to avoid falling down in the relegation zone on Saturday 23 September 2023 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy. It is a prestigious victory and a thriller game!   After a good start by Juventus,  it ended with a total disaster.  Sassuolo took the lead with Armand Laurientè thanks to Szczesny’s error. The Bianconeri, led by Chiesa, find the equalizer favored by the number 7 who puts a ball in the middle and finds the unfortunate deflection from Matías Viña. In the final, Domenico Berardi lights up and scores the goal for the new lead with a great left-footed shot from the edge of the area.

Juventus suffered their first lost while Sassuolo got their second victory.

Before the match, a minute of silence was observed for the passing of Giorgio Napolitano. Juventus have won in the first two away games of this championship without conceding any goals: they have not achieved three successes in the first three away games of a Serie A tournament, achieving a clean sheet in each since 2014/15 (five goals scored and zero suffered in that case).

Sassuolo opened the score in the 12th minute. Armand Laurienté defeated Juventus goalkeeper with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Bad luck for Sassuolo conceding an own goal by Matías Viña in the 21st minute resulting in Juventus equalizer.

Sassuolo took back the lead in the 41st minute. Forward Domenico Berardi scored with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Matheus Henrique.

Juventus equalized in the 78th minute. Federicoh Chiesa scored with a right-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Nicolò Fagioli.

Sassuolo took back the lead inthe 82nd minute. Andrea Pinamonti scored with a headed shot to the bottom left corner.

Sassuolo sealed the victory in the 94th minute with Juventus own goal by Federico Gatti giving a 4-2 win to Sassuolo.

✅  Stats before the game: Sassuolo has achieved two victories in the last four Serie A matches against Juventus (2L), one more success than the only one achieved by the neroverdi in the previous 16 matches against the bianconeri in the top tournament (3D, 12P). Despite the 1-0 victory with a goal from Defrel in the last home match played by Sassuolo against Juventus in Serie A (16 April 2023), the Juventus team is one of the three teams (like Inter and Milan) faced at least twice times in Serie A, against whom the neroverdi have the highest percentage of home defeats (60%, six knockouts in 10 games, 2W, 2N).
