It’s just a sunny day in Rome and a somber day for Juventus.  It’s not like an everyday experience for Roma, lately ending in the second place in the league, to defeat their main rival Juventus.   It was a tough test and midfielder Daniele De Rossi will treasure this victory as he was also Captain.    Here are the declarations by Daniele De Rossi after the Serie A Week 2 defeating Juventus  on Sunday 30 August 2015 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.    AS Roma 2 – 1 Juventus

Great win tonight, Daniele. What pleased you most about Roma’s performance?
“Our team spirit. We put in a brilliant performance, especially in the first half but, I have to say, we played well after the break too. It’s just a shame we had a nervy last ten minutes.”

How did you see the game?
“We did well, dominating for 80 minutes, before switching off for the final ten. Great teams can’t afford to do that, in fact, with the opposition down to 10 men, you have to kill the game. But we’ll work on that and so today it’s a case of the glass being half full in my eyes. We’ve only played two games and it’s a long season. What matters is reproducing the same determined approach we adopted tonight going forward.”

De Rossi: I liked our team spirit

How did you get on at center back?
“I’ll play wherever the team needs me. Today I played at the back and I’m happy. I would’ve been equally pleased had we beaten Juve with me in midfield. What matters to me is Roma winning and, where possible, with me on the pitch.”

Does today’s result change the balance of power in Italian football?
“I don’t think so, there’s a lot that we’ve seen before. Even when they were down to ten men, they still found a way back into a game that looked dead and buried. I believe Juventus will be fighting for top spot throughout the campaign. There’s still a long way to go.”

How big are these three points, with Juve now four behind?
“No points after two matches would’ve been hard to take for anyone, but Juve are traditionally a powerhouse. Coaches and players come and go but the mentality is always the same. I’m sure they’ll be competing right the way through the season and we need to do likewise.”

Is this the Roma side you’ve been looking for?
“Yes, we’re a team that plays football, just as we did during my first 18 months in charge. One of the strengths of this side is our team spirit and that goes for everyone, be it the guys starting the game or those coming off the bench. We know we’ve got quality footballers, though I did have some decisions to make at the back and thankfully things went well with the four that started the match.   I’m talking about Digne, who I didn’t want to start because he last played at the end of July. But he understands the team’s style of play because it’s the same one we used when we were together at Lille.”

You must be delighted with you first league win over Juventus…
“I always think about the group as a whole and I’m pleased for the players most of all. They’re the ones who did the work out on the pitch, though we could’ve played better when leading 2-0 against ten men. We dropped a little too deep after the opening goal and forgot to press as we did for the first 60 minutes of the match. I’m mainly referring to the pressing shown by our front three of Falque, Džeko and Salah. It’s still just the start of the season though and the fixture list threw up this massive game. I enjoy playing games like these and in terms of the confidence it can bring to the team, our win over Juventus can show us the way forward.”

After the Juve game last season, you made some famous comments to motivate the fans, how will you temper their enthusiasm now?
“I’ve already started, I’m not smiling much. I hope to have things to smile about over the course of the season. So far we have four points from two games, it’s a good start. The international break comes at a good time for us, in that the new arrivals can stay with us for two weeks and it’s always easier to come into work following a win going into the international break.”

Everyone did their bit defensively, what work went into that?
“The guys all followed our tactical plan and it worked. We put a lot of pressure on Chiellini and Caceres and we left the ball in the middle of the park to win it back in more promising positions. We know that when we play one touch and if we combine that with effective attacking football we can beat even Juve. They’re still a strong side

Miralem, how about that free-kick?
“It was a nice free-kick and I’m pleased to have opened the scoring. We deserved to take the lead, they’re always tricky games against the Bianconeri but today we kept the ball well. Maybe we could have been a bit more dangerous in the final third but I think the team deserved the victory.”
Had you already considered scoring directly from a set-piece? Were you not fazed by the presence of a keeper like Buffon?
“When an opportunity like that pops up, I can see the distance in my mind and I feel I want to take it. It went in today and we know that in tough games like these, dead-ball situations can be a route to goal. I might have scored in the first half but either way I have to congratulate the guys on a great performance. Today we showed our quality and determination from start to finish. We were the better side out there. Roma were worthy winners.”

What’s changed compared to Verona?
“We played at their tempo too much at Verona and the pitch didn’t allow us to play our game. Those are very tricky surfaces to play on. After we went behind against Hellas, we showed a different side to Roma, while today we saw the same team from the summer friendlies, albeit for the full 90 minutes. We showed what we can do tonight. We controlled the tempo from the first minute to the last and never had any problems.”

The big match between Juventus, who are  Italy defending Champions, and AS Roma in the last years always “number two” is just a rollercoaster with only one winer… Roma.

This time is a whole different pizza pie!  Why?  Here is the situation. Juventus, surprisingly, lost their first season game in Serie A at the Juventus Stadium falling to the 15th position instead of being in the usual “first position.”   Roma barely ended with a draw and are in the 11th position.   Today, the story hanged as Roma grabbed the victory delighting their fans by defeating  Juventus.   A total blow for Juventus losing their second consecutive game.     Roma have a +4  point difference ahead of their rival.  A reason to celebrate especially for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi who was captain today in absence of Francesco Totti.

The Olimpico Stadium celebrating in the 61st minute when the Roman gladiators opened the score .  It is midfielder Miralem Pjanic to defeat Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon from a free kick with a right footed shot in the top left corner.

Tough situation for Juventus remaining with 10 players!  In the 78th minute, Referee Rizzoli giving a second yellow card to midfielder Patrice Evra making it an automatic red card.  What a luck.

Big party time and let the music get louder for Roma fans….  it’s just  U N B E L I E V A B L E!!!  The giant falling!   Far from Juventus reacting, it is Roma to increase the score.  In the 79th minute forward Edin Dzeko defeating goalkeeper Buffon with a headed shot in the bottom right corner.  The assist is by Iago Falque.  A memorable goal for Dzeko as this is his first goal as a Roma player and you bet gaining more fans.

The honor goal arriving in the 87th minute.  It is forward Paulo Dybala to shorten the distance defeating Roma goalkeeper Szscesny with a  left footed shot in the top right corner.  The assist is by Roberto Pereyra.  This is the first goal by Dybala in Serie A as a Juventus player.

Roma trembling from a a moment when Juventus almost got the equalizer goal.  It is Roma goalkeeper Szscesny to secure the victory when he saved  in the 90th minute the headed shot in the top left corner by Leonardo Bonucci denying Juventus the goal.

Here is AS ROMA official starting lineup by coach Rudi Garcia:

AS ROMA (4-3-3) – Szscesny; Florenzi, Manolas, De Rossi, Digne; Pjanic, Keita, Nainggolan; Salah, Dzeko, Iago Falque.
