Miralem, how about that free-kick?
“It was a nice free-kick and I’m pleased to have opened the scoring. We deserved to take the lead, they’re always tricky games against the Bianconeri but today we kept the ball well. Maybe we could have been a bit more dangerous in the final third but I think the team deserved the victory.”
Had you already considered scoring directly from a set-piece? Were you not fazed by the presence of a keeper like Buffon?
“When an opportunity like that pops up, I can see the distance in my mind and I feel I want to take it. It went in today and we know that in tough games like these, dead-ball situations can be a route to goal. I might have scored in the first half but either way I have to congratulate the guys on a great performance. Today we showed our quality and determination from start to finish. We were the better side out there. Roma were worthy winners.”

What’s changed compared to Verona?
“We played at their tempo too much at Verona and the pitch didn’t allow us to play our game. Those are very tricky surfaces to play on. After we went behind against Hellas, we showed a different side to Roma, while today we saw the same team from the summer friendlies, albeit for the full 90 minutes. We showed what we can do tonight. We controlled the tempo from the first minute to the last and never had any problems.”
