Understanding the UEFA Champions League Structure

According to UEFA.com, starting this season, the rankings from the league phase will also play a crucial role in determining the seeding for the quarter-finals and semi-finals, in addition to the existing seeding for the knockout phase play-offs and the round of 16, as was the case last season.

In this context, the teams that are seeded for the quarter-finals (i.e., those that finish in the top four at the conclusion of the league phase) will benefit from playing the second leg of their quarter-final match at home, provided they advance that far.

Moreover, the teams seeded for the semi-finals (i.e., those that finish first and second at the end of the league phase) will also have the advantage of hosting the second leg of their semi-final match at home if they reach that level. However, if a seeded team is defeated in any round, the team that eliminates them will inherit their seeding position.

Galatasaray or Bruges await them

Napoli, Vergara and Hojlund give the Azzurri false hope
Joao Pedro is superb and Chelsea goes through

👉De Zerbi’s Marseille are out
Real and PSG are in the playoffs
The draw is tomorrow

👉Australia: Musetti retires at a crucial moment

👉Champions League disappointment
Chivu wins in Dortmund (0-2) and narrowly misses the round of 16: now it’s Benfica (coached by Mourinho) or Bodo
Triple playoff

Inter, Juve, and Atalanta in the playoffs
Napoli eliminated

Dimarco and Diouf score, but the effort isn’t enough.
Spalletti, only a 0-0 draw at Monaco: they’ll face Bruges or Galatasaray.
Atalanta loses in Belgium (1-0): the danger is Borussia Dortmund
Conte, from a great dream to a 2-3 defeat against Chelsea.

👉Incredible Mourinho: He reaches the playoffs in the 98th minute with a header goal from goalkeeper Trubin.

👉Pana (21) is there.
Ferguson is out.
Gasp’s anxiety: a Roma team reduced to half its strength.

👉Napoli plays against Maccabi at 9 PM.

👉A tribute to the victims of Crans-Montana
Azzurre tears

Today’s Front Page Tutto Sport, Thursday 29 January 2026

👉A 0-0 draw in Monaco, without taking any risks.
Tomorrow’s playoff draw: either Brugge or Galatasaray.
Juve, now Osi?

Osimhen, a rival in many matches with Napoli and former striker under Spalletti, is the star of the Turkish team: the Belgians have Stankovic Jr.
In the round of 16, they would then face Liverpool or Tottenham.
The “reserves” are disappointing, from now on something more is needed: on the field and in the transfer market. It’s Kolo Muani’s day.

👉Napoli eliminated. Atalanta defeated: no round of 16.
Only Inter wins, but they go to the play-offs.
And there’s the risk of facing Mourinho.

Dimarco and Diouf secure the win in Dortmund, but Inter still miss out on the last eight: now it’s Benfica or Bodo. Chelsea stage a comeback at the Maradona stadium, Conte is eliminated. Atalanta lose in Belgium: Olympiacos or Borussia in the play-offs.

👉Horrible defense, desperate search for reinforcements
Kumbulla, Kapuadi…
Torino’s confusion

New and old leads, frantic negotiations, but with 5 days left until the transfer window closes, only Tchoca has arrived. Yet the shortcomings have been known for months.

👉Melbourne: fate smiles on Sinner, setting up a match against Djokovic
Go Jannik, avenge Muso’s tears!
