Hello, my friends. Here are the 2021-2022 Italian Serie A Week 1 RESULTS / First Round on Saturday 21, Sunday 22, and Monday 23 August 2021. Finally, Week 1 is completed and we have some good debuts and other flops. The most awaited among coaches is “The Special One” Jose Mourinho getting his first victory with AS Roma.

Hellas Verona midfielder Mattia Zaccagni, Bologna defender Lorenzo De Silvestri, Cagliari João Pedro, and AS Roma Jordan Veretout with 2 goals each
The 2021-22 Serie A Season officially started! Italy’s Champions Inter making a strong statement by crushing Genoa at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium with a 4-0. A superb debut for Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi and the new players Edin Dzeko and Hakan Çalhanoğlu presenting themselves with a goal! It’s a dream debut for Inter defending their Scudetto this season. Dzeko made his 200th appearance in Serie A. Inter showing the transfer of Romelu Lukaku is not that negative for the team.
A good debut is also for Lazio Coach Maurizio Sarri defeating Empoli with a 1-3 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium. King Ciro Immobile making his presence felt by converting a penalty. Empoli promoted from Serie B with a sour debut despite the goal by Filippo Bandinelli giving the lead to Empoli. Lazio recting with Milinkovic-Savic equalizing. Lazio overturning the result with Lazzari’s goal and sealing the result with the penalty converted by Immobile. It is an uphill rocky road and the immediate measures are needed to avoid experiencing a nightmare at an early stage. It’s too early for a pessimistic scenario. Simply put, Lazio did well in attack, less well in defense but we know that it will take time for the team to adapt to Sarri’s style.
Atalanta also rejoicing with their away debut grabbing a victory in the 93rd minute!! Torino succumbing at the Olimpico experiencing a tough feeling. Atalanta with a late goal winner scored by Roberto Piccoli. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is certainly embracing again his squad to be a decisive squad.
Sassuolo also with a precious away victory defeating Hellas Verona at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium. Tough debut for Hellas Verona Coach Eusebio Di Francesco while a good debut for Sassuolo Coach Alessio Dionisi.
Napoli defeated a brave Venezia returning to the Serie A after a 19-year absence. We might argue this is not a bad test for Venezia because Napoli needed 60 minutes to open the score. Venezia got a taste of playing in the big league against one of the bests teams. Napoli looking for redemption after failing to qualify last season for the UEFA Champions League football ending in the 5th position with 77 points just one point below Juventus in the 4th position with 78 points. Overall, it was a good debut of New Napoli Coach Luciano Spalletti. Elmas hadn’t scored in the league since January 2021 against Parma: three of his four goals in Serie A at home!
Udinese giving a strong battle to draw the Serie A Week 1 Juventus at the Dacia Arena. Juventus hungry to recover their domain in Serie A after losing their 9th consecutive Scudetto last season with Inter winning it. Surprise of the match, Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo starting from the bench. Rumors of transfer still going. Cristiano started in the 60th minute and making matters more tense, the VAR denies Ronaldo the winner goal in the 94th minute. .
The big moment for “the Special One” AS Roma new Coach Jose Mourinho making a brilliant debut. AS Roma defeating Fiorentina at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. Sad debut is for Fiorentina new Coach Vincenzo Italiano losing the game. Yet, don’t panic, this is only the first game and we have 37 more games to enjoy both teams. Highlight of the game, the debut of AS Roma players Tammy Abraham, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eldor Shomurodov being decisive in this victory with goals and assist. Way to present themselves to their new fans! The Mourinho Era has officially started!
A big day for Bologna breaking the negative stats. Bologna have won just one of their last 11 Serie A season openers having 1 win, 4 draws, and losing 6. This victory is an added boost for the team winning a second opener Serie A game!!! Newly promoted Salernitana enjoying this gala debut despite losing the game. Why? Salernitana took the early lead and showed a good game putting a strong front not making easier for Bologna. At the end, Bologna overturned the result claiming the victory with a good debut. Salernitana finished in the second position in Serie B last season promoted to the Serie A for the first time in 23 years and just the third time ever.
Cagliari coming from the ashes managed to draw the Serie A Week 1 game against Spezia on Monday 23 August. Spezia were leading with a 0-2 and in 4 minutes Cagliari equalized the score to save at least 1 point. Spezia with new coach after the departure of Vincenzo Italiano and his replacement with Thiago Motta, giving signals of hope. Spezia remained unbeaten in last season’s two matches against Cagliari: a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Sardinia and a 2-1 win at the Picco in the second leg. João Pedro scoring the 2 goals is the Brazilian top scorer in the last three seasons in the European Top-5 leagues (from 2018/19). Hes is the 5th player in Cagliari history to score in seven seasons different in Serie A, after Luigi Riva (12) Daniele Conti (11), Nene (10) and Ricciotti Greatti (seven).
Last game on Monday seeing Sampdoria failing to win the Serie A Week 1 game against AC Milan at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. AC Milan causing an upset grabbing this important away victory with the only goal of the match by Brahim Díaz to start the season. Milan have now won their last 3 away games against Sampdoria in Serie A, last time this happened was in 1968, four consecutive wins. Milan winning 11 away Serie A games since the start of 2021, the joint-most in the Europe’s top 5 leagues level with Manchester City and Barcelona. Milan also haven’t conceded a goal in 6 consecutive games in Serie A for the first time since the 1993/94 Season i February under Coach Fabio Capello. Great debut of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan replacing Gianluigi Donnarumma who transferred to PSG.
