👉 Here is the list of suspensions by the Sporting Judge Gerardo Mastrandrea assisted by Stefania Ginesio and the A.I.A Representative Carlo Moretti on Monday 25 October 2021 after the Serie A Round 9 concluded on Sunday 24 October 2021.

One Match Suspension

The Serie A sports judge disqualified for a round AS Roma CoachJosè Mourinho and Napoli Coach Luciano Spalletti, both expelled during the league match between Rome and Napoli.  A day of disqualification also for Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini and Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi.

Interestingly, the Serie A Week 10 will be played without four coaches after yesterday’s respective expulsions. Spalletti, according to the sports judge, had “assuming an ironic attitude, addressing the race director with disrespectful expressions.” Same motivations for Gasperini (“irrelevant expressions”), fined like Spalletti with 5,000 euros, and Inzaghi (“for having challenged an arbitral decision in public and vehemently”). For Mourinho, however, the cause is a double warning.

Measures and motivations

Spalletti: disqualified for an effective day of competition and a fine of € 5,000.00 for having, at the end of the race, on the playing field, assuming an ironic attitude, addressing the Race Director disrespectful expressions.

Mourinho: disqualified for an effective day of competition for a double warning.

Gasperini: disqualified for an effective day of competition and warning (first sanction) and a fine of € 5,000.00 for having, at the 46th of the second half, at the time of the warning measure addressed to the Match Officers irrelevant expressions; infringement detected by the Fourth Officer.

Inzaghi: disqualified for an effective day of competition and warning (first sanction) and a fine of € 5,000.00 for having, in the 43rd of the second half, challenged an arbitration decision in public and vehemently; infringement detected by the Fourth Officer.

Napoli get their first draw this season after winning the first 8 games. The Sun Derby / Derby del Sole ends the Serie A Week 9 game with a draw at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.  The last time the Derby del Sole ended with a draw at the Olimpico was in February 1980.  Roma failing to redeem themselves after the embarrassing defeat in the UEFA Europa Conference League losing 6-1 against Bodo Glimt in Norway.  The draw giving 1 point each.  Napoli reaching 25 points sharing same points with AC Milan.  Napoli get the 1st position for goal difference having +16 over Milan with +13.  The last time the Derby del Sole ended with a draw at the Olimpico was in February 1980. Stats now showing a total of 169 Derby del Sole: AS Roma 63 wins, 54 draws, and Napoli 52 wins.

The big Derby d’Italia seeing Inter with a +3 points advantage over Juventus.  Inter failing to win the Serie A Week 9 game against Juventus ending with a late draw at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.  This is the 177th match between the two teams in the Serie A.  Italy Head Coach Roberto Mancini attending the game to observe players.  The draw kept Inter in the 3rd position with 18 points while Juventus climbed from the 7th to the 6th position. Inter are -7 points below Napoli and AC Milan with 25 points each in the leadership.

A sour day for Bologna losing the Serie A Week 9 game against AC Milan at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium .   Bologna playing with 9 players since the 58th minute succumbed to the pressure.   AC Milan win this away game reaching 25 points to keep up the race for the Scudetto.  This is a special victory for AC Milan Coach Stefano Pioli celebrating his 100th game with Milan.  Bologna have not won at home against AC Milan in Serie A since 2001/02 (4N, 11P)

Torino win the Serie A Week 9 game defeating Genoa at the Olimpico di Torino. Motivation is high for Torino having lost their last two games against Juventus and Napoli, without scoring.  This victory is a redemption and added boost for Torino having now a +5 points lead over Genoa.  Problem is for Genoa remaining in the relegation zone.  Torino  have not lost three games in a row in the competition since December 2020 and there are three goalless games in Serie A since November 2014.

Sampdoria dreaming with salvation after winning the Serie A Week 9 game against Spezia  at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. Sampdoria reaching 9 points while Spezia remain with 7 points risking the relegazion zone.  Spezia won their last league match, against Salernitana, and haven’t achieved two consecutive Serie A wins since last February.

Empoli win the Serie A Week 9 game defeating Salernitana at the Arechi Stadium. Salernitana remained in the last position in the relegation zone a sour debut for Coach Stefano Colantuono.  Salernitana have lost only one of their five home games against Tuscan teams in Serie A (2-4 against Livorno in 1948): they complete two home wins and as many draws in the two most recent.

This was a duel to avoid falling down in the relegation zone. Sassuolo win the Serie A Week 9 game defeating Venezia at the Mapei Stadium.  Sassuolo finds victory again after the defeat against Inter and the draw on the field of Genoa, Dionisi’s team wins the victory against Venezia, winning a comeback 3-1 obtaining the third victory in the championship.   Sassuolo and Venezia have never crossed paths between Serie A, Serie B and the Italian Cup.

Atalanta with a sprint race to climb towards the top 5 positions seeing their chances crumble. Atalanta needed to win the Serie A Week 9 game against Udinese  and ended up with a draw on Sunday 24 October 2021 at the Gewiss Stadium.  Atalanta had the lead up to the 94th minute almost getting full 3 points when Udinese draw to claim 1 point. Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini got a red card for protesting in the 91st minute.    Atalanta are now unbeaten in eight games against Udinese in Serie A, thanks to six wins and a draw: in the period, from 2018 onwards, Bergamo have won more games (7 vs 6) and scored more goals (28 vs 21) only against Sassuolo.

Hellas Verona humiliated Lazio thanks to the brilliant poker by forward Giovanni Simeone. Verona win the Serie A Week 9 game against Lazio at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium.  Hellas Verona needed the victory to keep moving away the relegation zone, and they got it in grand style!.

Cagliari still dreaming with salvation failing to win the Serie A Week 9 against Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.  Fiorentina grabbing this home game reaching 15 points while Cagliari remain with 6 points in the relegation zone.  Fiorentina is one of three teams, as well as Napoli and Roma, that have not yet drawn a match in this Serie A.
