Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A Week 37 RESULTS / Thirty-seventh Round on Friday 26, Saturday 27, and Sunday 28 May 2023.  We have one more game after this round to end the Season.

This Round starts with the news that Inter won the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa Final defeating Fiorentina on Wednesday 24 May.

Note:  Coppa Italia Final Result Fiorentina 1 – 2 Inter, Wed, 24 May 2023

✅   Here is the situation: 👉🏆🇮🇹      Napoli won the 2022-23 Serie A Scudetto on Thursday 4 May 2023 after the 1-1 draw with Udinese.

Verdict – Relegation.  After 11 seasons in Serie A, Sampdoria is arithmetically relegated to Serie B 2023-24 after losing the Serie A Week 34 against Udinese.

Cremonese will return to Serie B next season after 17th-placed Spezia drew at Lecce on Sunday, sealing their relegation with two games remaining in the season. Spezia reached 31 points. Mathematically speaking, Cremonese in the 19th place with 24 points, can no longer leapfrog them for safety.

Verdict – Promotion:  Two Serie B teams are already promoted to the Serie A 2023-24: Frosinone and Genoa.

Saved:   Lecce saved to remain in Serie A after defeating Monza.

Good news for Inter securing their place in next season’s Champions League 2023-24 after a 3-2 win over Atalanta. Inter have remained unbeaten in their last 9 home matches against Atalanta in Serie A (W6 D3): only between May 1964 and January 1985 did they do better (11 games in a row). Inter scored two goals in the first 3 minutes of play in a single Serie A match for the first time since 5 January 1941 against Roma. Atalanta conceded two in the first three minutes for the first time in the competition.

Milan obtained the second consecutive victory after the one against Sampdoria and arithmetically qualified for the next Champions League with one match before the end of the championship. Pioli’s team can still finish third, but to overcome Inter they will have to win against Verona on the last day and hope that the Nerazzurri lose on the Turin field. A second defeat in a row, however, for Juventus, who thus remain in seventh place in the standings, one point behind Roma in sixth and two behind Atalanta in fifth. To get to the Europa League, Juventus will have to win away against Udinese and hope for missteps by the Giallorossi with Spezia and the Bergamo players with Monza.

For the first time in their history in Serie A, Salernitana have gone seven straight home matches without defeat in the competition (W4, L3).

Torino have won four consecutive away games without conceding for the fourth time in a single Serie A championship (previously in 1935/36 and twice in 1942/43). Torino have won 31 points in 19 away games in this championship (W9, D4, L6), the record for away grenades in the era of three points for a win in a single Serie A championship.

Empoli’s goal, which came after 95 minutes and 26 seconds, was the most recent for the Tuscans in Serie A since 2004/05 (as of when data is available).

Napoli had not drawn a Serie A match after going two goals up since 1 December 2021 (2-2 v Sassuolo). Bologna had not drawn a league game after going down by two goals since 23 December 2020 (2-2 v Atalanta). Bologna (51 in 2022/23) passed the 50-point mark in a Serie A championship for the first time since 2011/12, when they reached 51 and finished in 9th place.

Lecce have not conceded a goal in two consecutive Serie A games for the first time since April 2012, with Coach Serse Cosmi. First error from the penalty spot for Monza, the Brianza players have scored five of the six penalties taken in this Serie A TIM season. Lecce defeated Monza and got their salvation.

Lazio have won both of their seasonal matches against Cremonese in Serie A for the second time, after 1929/30. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is the midfielder who has participated in the most goals in this Serie A TIM season (17, the result of nine goals and eight assists).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game
Bologna, 11th position with 50 points and a positive goal difference of +3
Napoli, 1st  position with 86 points and a positive goal difference of +47

Napoli, the Champions of Italy, ended the Serie A Week 37 game with a draw on Sunday 28 May 2023 at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy. In the standings, Bologna moves to 51 points, losing contact from 8th place, while Napoli rises to 87 but sees the possibility of beating the record set in the 2017/18 season fade away. A super Victor Osimhen with a brace for Napoli is not enough to achieve victory. Bologna comeback signed by Ferguson and De Silvestri. The championship will end with Napoli-Sampdoria and Lecce-Bologna.

Napoli opened the score in the 14th minute. Forward Victor Osimhen defeated Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Bologna conceding another goal in the 54th minute. The hero for Napoli is Osimhen with a brace and again scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Bartosz Bereszynski. Osimhen scored his 25th goal remaining the sole top scorer.

Bologna shortened the distance in the 62nd minute. Lewis Ferguson defeated Napoli goalkeeper Gollini with a right-footed shot to the center.

Bologna battling until the end to equalize in the 84th minute. Lorenzo De Silvestri scored from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Nicola Sansone following a corner conceded by Bartosz Bereszynski.

✅   Stats before the game: Bologna is the team against which Napoli has scored the most goals in Serie A: 192. The Neapolitans lead for 49 wins to 41 in 127 meetings against the Emilians in the top division; 37 draws complete the picture. Napoli have won 11 of their last 14 matches (D1, L2) against Bologna in Serie A, including all of the last five, with a score of 12-3 in the latter half. Napoli have won their last two games against Bologna at the Dall’Ara in the league; the Neapolitans have never achieved three consecutive away wins against the Rossoblù in their history in Serie A. Bologna have drawn their last three home league matches (against Milan, Juventus and Roma); the Emilians have not recorded consecutive home draws in Serie A since the period between March and May 1989 (four in that case, with Luigi Maifredi on the bench, the last of which against Napoli). Napoli lost their last league away game against Monza; the Neapolitans have not suffered two consecutive defeats away from home in Serie A since February 2021 (three on that occasion).

👉 Lineup BOLOGNA (4-2-3-1): Skorupski – Posch, Bonifazi, Lucumi’, Cambiaso – Schouten, Dominguez – Aebischer, Ferguson, Barrow – Arnautovic.

👉 Lineup NAPOLI (4-3-3): Gollini – Bereszynski, Rrahmani, Kim, Olivera – Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski – Zerbin, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.
