Stats BEFORE the game Juventus vs Galatasaray

Juventus has just one victory out of their seven UEFA Champions League encounters with Galatasaray. That is, D3 L3, which was a 2-1 win at home in September 2003.

The 5-2 loss Juventus faced at Galatasaray marked the second occasion they lost the first leg of a knockout stage match in a European tournament by a margin of three or more goals.  For instance, the first being against Real Madrid in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals (0-3 in the first leg, 3-1 in the second leg).

Galatasaray has yet to achieve a win in 13 away games against Italian teams in major European competitions (D6 L7).   However, only one of their past results in these matches led to their elimination this time (the 0-5 loss to AC Milan in March 1963).

Galatasaray has progressed to the next round in all 11 of their knockout ties in European competitions.  On those occasions, after winning the first leg by a margin of at least three goals (including qualifying rounds).

Before this season, there had been 49 instances where a team lost the first leg of a UEFA Champions League knockout round by three or more goals. Furthermore, only four teams managed to advance to the next round: Deportivo de La Coruña (in 2003/04 against AC Milan), Barcelona (in 2016/17 against PSG), Roma (in 2017/18 against Barcelona), and Liverpool (in 2018/19 against Barcelona).
