Ghezzal: "Fiorentina is a huge opportunity for me"

Rachid Ghezzal is raring to go at Fiorentina after swapping the Premier League for Serie A in a deadline day move from Leicester City.

“I had a difficult year at Leicester so when the opportunity came up for me to join a historic club like Fiorentina, I couldn’t let it pass my by,” said the Algerian, appearing at his first press conference as Fiorentina player on Thursday.

“I’m a technical player and I like to try to catch the opposition off guard,” said Ghezzal. “I like to provide assists and try dribbles. I feel most comfortable on the right flank, despite the fact that I’m left-footed. I have good physical attributes too, both going forward and in defence. I want to do as well as I can to help the team in the league.”
Ghezzal spoke positively about the standard of Serie A, which has seen a host of big names arrive over the summer.
“I think Serie A has some top players and clubs,” he said. “I made the decision to come to Serie A, which I think is on the same level as the Premier League and La Liga. It was a fantastic opportunity for me to join a club like Fiorentina. I spoke to my older brother, who played in Serie A for many years, and he told me it was a great opportunity.”
Ghezzal also revealed the reasoning behind his decision to opt for the No.18 shirt at Fiorentina.
“I chose it because it was the number by brother wore when he played in Serie A,” he said. “I hope to achieve big things in that shirt.”
