Antonio Cincotta and Martina Fusini stressed that Fiorentina Women have not come to London just to make up the numbers against Arsenal and are determined to give a good account of themselves in the second leg of their Champions League last-32 clash.
While the Gunners’ 4-0 first-leg victory makes them clear favourites to progress to the next round, Cincotta insists Fiorentina will put everything they have into the remaining 90 minutes.
“We’re not going to rotate for this game. We’ll respect the tournament and play our fittest, most in-form players,” the coach explained on the eve of the match.
The players are also keen to put in a big performance and move on from last weekend’s defeat to Roma.
“We’ll go out there and give it our very best effort to honour Florence’s name,” Fusini said.
“Arsenal are playing at home so they’ll set out to attack and offer up a good show for their fans. It will be a very tough, hard-fought match and I expect we’ll come under a lot of pressure. It will be different sort of game to the first leg.
“We’re still getting to know each other, a little more with each game. Getting drawn against an English team this early on certainly hasn’t helped. Now we’re in London after just two league games.
“We’ll see how it goes but in any case we’ll go out there determined to show what we can do.”
