Speaking ahead of his trip from Milan to Rome aboard the Frecciarossa 1000 train and before handing over the prestigious trophy, this is what the former midfield battler, who is now coach of Pisa, had to say: “Winning breeds confidence and winning a trophy is always important. The first people to be worried about the current situation and suffering right now are the joint-CEO Galliani and the President Berlusconi. They are certainly far from happy. If the two Milan clubs can get back to being competitive, then Italian football can start making the difference again in Europe. The responsibility lies with the players, but it’s normal that the club is also to blame because it is the club who picks the players. I’ve heard it said that they are not up to the Milan standard, but the lads have their own history and career. The 30 years of Berlusconi Presidency have been unforgettable. I spent 14 years at Milan and I was very happy at the club. Milan was the perfect machine. Testing moments can happen, but you can’t forget the 25 years of success. This is a time in which the identity has to be reinstalled, the club has its responsibility, but so do the players. I am proud to have won this trophy because in 30 years of Berlusconi’s presidency we only won it once, in 2003. It was incredible to wear the Milan jersey. I have always been a fan and it was special. I would have been a footballer even for a tenth of the money I earned.”
