South Africa vs Canada Official Lineups, Sunday, June 28, 2026, World Cup Round of 32
Here are the official starting lineups for South Africa vs Canada on Sunday, June 28, 2026, during this historic FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match at Los Angeles Stadium. Both nations are aiming for their first win in the tournament’s knockout stage.
Unfortunately, Canada will be missing their talented Sassuolo midfielder Ismaël Koné, who suffered a broken leg in the previous match. Leading the charge for Canada is Juventus forward Jonathan David. The South Africa squad does not include any Serie A players.
Note: Ismaël Koné sustained a left leg injury (fracturing his tibia and fibula) on June 18, 2026, during Canada’s 6-0 victory over Qatar in the FIFA World Cup. He was injured early in the second half due to a tackle from Qatar’s Assim Madibo.
How did they reach the Round of 32?
South Africa: They advanced to the knockout round following a remarkable 1-0 upset against South Korea in their final group stage match. They are riding high on momentum after overcoming a challenging start to the tournament.
Canada: They secured second place in Group B, despite a final 2-1 defeat to Switzerland. Their chances have been greatly enhanced by the return of captain and star player Alphonso Davies, who is now match-fit after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Statistics: In their only prior international encounter, South Africa triumphed over Canada 2-0 in a friendly match in 2007.
