Stats before the game: Rennes remained unbeaten in their three previous home matches played against Italian teams in all European competitions (W1, D2), all played against different opponents (success against Lazio and draws against Juventus and Udinese). After losing all of their first four away matches against French teams in European competitions, Milan suffered defeat in only three of their next 11 (W4, D4); The Rossoneri’s last victory in France dates back to November 2010 against Auxerre in the UEFA Champions League. Rennes’ longest ever unbeaten home run in major European competitions – six wins and four draws between September 2021 and November 2023 – was interrupted by Villarreal on the sixth matchday of the group stage of this UEFA Europa League (3-2); The last time Rennes lost twice in a row at home in the UEFA Cup/Europa League was in October 2007 (three in that case). After the 2-1 victory over Newcastle at St. James’ Park on matchday six of the UEFA Champions League group stage, Milan could win two consecutive away games in major European competitions for the first time since October 2009, and could also gain a success in multiple away matches in the same European season for the first time since the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League (two in that case).
