Milan have reached an agreement to send Santiago Gimenez to FC Porto on loan with an option to buy that will become mandatory if certain conditions are met, with the total value of the deal potentially reaching €20m.

The negotiations had continued for some time after the Mexico international was informed that he was not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans for the season. Porto was always Gimenez’s preferred destination, with coach Francesco Farioli a strong admirer of the striker, although reaching an agreement on the terms proved complicated.

Gimenez’s transfer to FC Porto agreed

The breakthrough came late on Saturday evening, with multiple sources confirming that the deal between Milan and FC Porto had been completed.

The decisive step was the inclusion of clauses that can turn the option to buy into an obligation, with one of the conditions linked to the number of appearances Gimenez makes for Porto.

There will be no loan fee involved. The Portuguese club will have an €18m option to buy, with a further €2m available in add-ons, taking the potential total value of the transfer to €20m.

Milan and Gimenez agree to a €20m deal

Milan signed Gimenez from Feyenoord for more than €30m in January 2025. Although he made a strong initial impression, his form subsequently declined, and injuries also affected his time with the Rossoneri.

The striker underwent ankle surgery in December 2025, adding to the difficulties he experienced during his spell at Milan. He will now leave the club after making 37 competitive appearances.

During those games, Gimenez scored seven goals and provided six assists before agreeing to continue his career at FC Porto.
