The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announce that goalkeeper Alex Meret, following investigations carried out after suffering an injury during last week Serie A Round 2, will not be available for the national team’s next matches.  The x-ray images, which have already been sent to the Napoli medical team, show a fracture of the 3rd and 4th lumbar vertebrae. Meret will return to Napoli after tomorrow’s match between Italy and Bulgaria.

Meret will miss all three qualification games  for the Qatar 2022 World Cup against Bulgaria (Florence, Stadio Artemio Franchi, 2 September at 20.45 CEST), Switzerland (Basel, St. Jacobs Park Stadium, 5 September at 20.45 CEST), and Lithuania (Reggio Emilia, Stadio Città del Tricolore, 8 September at 20.45 CEST).
