Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Bologna, 8th position with 12 points and a negative goal difference of -2
AC Milan, 2nd position with 22 points and a positive goal difference of +11

A sour day for Bologna losing the Serie A Week 9 game against AC Milan on Saturday 23 October 2021 at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy.   Bologna playing with 9 players since the 58th minute succumbed to the pressure.   AC Milan win this away game reaching 25 points to keep up the race for the Scudetto being +1 point above Napoli with 24 points.  If Napoli win tomorrow, they will take back the first position.  This is a special victory for AC Milan Coach Stefano Pioli celebrating his 100th game with Milan.

Bologna have not won at home against AC Milan in Serie A since 2001/02 (4N, 11P): since then the rossoblù have suffered more home losses only against Inter (12) than against the Rossoneri (11).  Milan making 22 points in eight league matches represent a record in the era of three points per victory for Milan, who won eight of their first nine seasons in Serie A in 1954/55 alone, a season that ended in first place.

✅  Stats before the game. Bologna have scored only one point in their last 11 games against AC Milan in Serie A.   Bologna have never repeated the same result twice in a row in their last 12 league games, in which they have recorded three wins, five draws and four defeats – even against Udinese in their most recent Serie A match. Bologna have remained undefeated in their last four Serie A home games (3W, 1N) and do no better in a single league from a streak of seven straight wins in May 2019.  Away in 2021, Milan achieved 13 wins, one draw and two defeats in Serie A: the Rossoneri have achieved more away wins in a single calendar year in 1964 alone (14 in that case).  Milan are the team in the top five European leagues that received the most penalties in 2021 (14) and that scored the most goals from the spot (11) – nine of the Rossoneri penalty goals in the period were by Franck Kessié, none have done better than him in this calendar year.

AC Milan opening the score in the 16th minute. It is forward Rafael Leão to defeat Bologna goalkeeper Skorupski with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

What a luck ! Sour move. Zlatan Ibrahimović scoring an own goal in the 49th minute shortening the distance for Bologna…. tough to swallow!

Bologna equalizing for the 2-2 in the 52nd minute. It is Musa Barrow to defeat AC Milan goalkeeper Tătăruşanu with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Roberto Soriano.

A major blow for Bologna remaining with 9 players in the 58th minute. Referee Doveri gives a red card to Roberto Soriano after a foul on Fodé Ballo-Touré.

AC Milan taking again the lead in the 84th minute. Ismaël Bennacer with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner.

The redemption moment for Zlatan Ibrahimović in the 90th minute sealing the game for the final 2-4 in favor of the Rossoneri.
