Empoli making a sour home debut in the Serie A against Lazio after being absent in two years. Empoli were promoted from Serie B this season. The ideal return was to win their first game at Stadio Carlo Castellani for the Serie A Week 1 on Saturday 21 August 2021. Yet, Lazio overturned the result and claimed this away victory. It is an uphill rocky road for Empoli and immediate measures are needed to avoid experiencing a nightmare at an early stage. Simply put, Lazio did well in attack, less well in defense but we know that it will take time for the team to adapt to Sarri’s style.
Let’s put it this way, Empoli’s defeat against a higher-level team, but on the pitch we saw a great Empoli, who played well and could have scored even more. Great credit goes to Coach Andreazzoli.
- Lazio finished the last season at the 6th place with 68 points and a positive goal difference of +6 scoring 55 goals in 38 games while losing 9 of 19 league. Empoli won the Serie B championship last season with the best attack.
Sarri faced his former team Empoli and he has never been defeated. Sarri reaching his third consecutive victory at his Serie A debut relying on forward Ciro Immobile scoring his sixth goal in the first official match of the year in six seasons. Sarri has clashed 4 times against Empoli, all as a Napoli coach, winning on 3 occasions and drawing on one.
