Empoli making a sour home debut in the Serie A against Lazio after being absent in two years.  Empoli were promoted from Serie B this season.   The ideal return was to win their first game at Stadio Carlo Castellani for the Serie A Week 1 on Saturday 21 August 2021. Yet, Lazio overturned the result and claimed this away victory.  It is an uphill rocky road  for Empoli and immediate measures are needed to avoid experiencing a nightmare at an early stage.  Simply put, Lazio did well in attack, less well in defense but we know that it will take time for the team to adapt to  Sarri’s style.

Let’s put it this way, Empoli’s defeat against a higher-level team, but on the pitch we saw a great Empoli, who played well and could have scored even more. Great credit goes to Coach Andreazzoli.

  • Lazio finished the last season at the 6th place with 68 points and a positive goal difference of +6 scoring 55 goals in 38 games while losing  9 of 19 league.  Empoli won the Serie B championship last season with the best attack.

Sarri faced his former team Empoli and he has never been defeated.  Sarri reaching his third consecutive victory at his Serie A debut relying on forward Ciro Immobile scoring his sixth goal in the first official match of the year in six seasons.  Sarri has clashed 4 times against Empoli, all as a Napoli coach, winning on 3 occasions and drawing on one.

Empoli opening the score in the 4th minute. Filippo Bandinelli defeating Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina with a left footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Nedim Bajrami.

Lazio equalizing for the 1-1 in the 6th minute. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic defeating Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Felipe Anderson with a cross following a corner conceded by Vicario.

Lazio taking the lead in the 32nd minute with the goal by Manuel Lazzari delivering a right footed shot to the bottom left corner.

King Ciro Immobile scoring for the 1-3. In the 41st minute, Immobile converting a penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Guglielmo Vicario.
