Atalanta humiliating AC Milan at the Atleti Azzurri D’Italia Stadium crushing their chances for the Europa League. AC Milan succumbing to the pressure. Their duty was to defeat Atalanta, but they were not even able to score a goal! Incredible so, the other 2 main contenders Torino – Parma ended with a draw! Had Milan won the game they would have reached the 6th position. Ironically, Atalanta even helped them with an “own goal.” On Week 18, game in favor of AC Milan with Kaka scoring his 100th goal as a Milan player. AC Milan 3 – 0 Atalanta. Milan failed big time and question is whether they deserve to be in Europa or learn a tough lesson.
An embarassing episode happening in the second half when fans throw bananas at the pitch showing racism. Bananas against AC Milan defender Kevin Constant. Defender Philippe Mexes picking one banana and showing to Referee Rizzoli.
Fact here is that AC Milan had all the chances, but failing. Atalanta even scoring an own goal in the 51st minute by defender Gianpaolo Bellini giving the Rossoneri the lead! Atalanta equalizing in the 66th minute. Referee Rizzoli giving a penalty to Atalanta in the 65th minute conceded by Milan defender Constant for a foul on Atalanta midfielder Carlos Carmona. Taking the penalty spot is forward German Denis converting the penalty with a right footed shot defeating Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia in the bottom right corner.
The hero of the match would be midfielder Franco Brienza. Imagine, Brienza came as a substitute in the 88th minute replacing forward Maximiliano Moralez. Brienza then adding injury to a hurting Milan by scoring the winner goal in the agonizing 96th minute to claim the full 3 points.
