Napoli won the Serie A 3 match on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy. Napoli staged a thrilling comeback in the closing moments to secure a 2-1 victory over Parma, with Lukaku, Anguissa, and Bonny all finding the back of the net. This win temporarily elevates Napoli to fourth place with 6 points, while Parma slips to ninth with 4 points.

The match at the Maradona in Naples was highly competitive, with the first half ending in favor of the visitors after Bonny converted a penalty. However, the second half saw Napoli dominate, leading to a pivotal moment when Suzuki fouled Neres, resulting in a second yellow card for the Parma goalkeeper. Delprato stepped in as the makeshift goalie. In injury time, Lukaku, who had just come on, scored the equalizer, followed shortly by Anguissa’s winning goal. The match concluded with a nail-biting moment as Meret made a crucial save against Almqvist’s shot.

The opening goal…

Parma took the lead in the 19th minute. Ange-Yoan Bonny converted a penalty with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty was conceded by Alex Meret after a foul on Bonny.

Big Rom with an ideal debut! In the 92nd minute, Romelu Lukaku equalized with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Leonardo Spinazzola.

The party is on! Napoli conquered the victory in the 96th minute. Frank Anguissa giving the fans a reason to celebrate after scoring with a powerful header aimed at the top center of the net. The assist came from David Neres, who delivered a perfect cross after a corner awarded to Pontus Almqvist.

Stats before the game:

Napoli and Parma have drawn only one of their last 17 Serie A matches – 10 wins for the Neapolitans and six for the Emilians in the process -, that of 10 May 2015, 2-2, at the Tardini (Manolo Gabbiadini and Dries Mertens the scorers for the Neapolitans, Raffaele Palladino and Cristóbal Jorquera those for the Emilians).
Napoli have not conceded a goal in their last two Serie A matches against Parma, both played in the 2020/21 season, with Gennaro Gattuso on the bench; the Campanians could keep a clean sheet for three consecutive matches against the Ducali for the first time in the competition.
Parma have won four of their last nine away games against Napoli in Serie A (L5) – the last one on 14 December 2019, 2-1, with goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Gervinho – after having taken the three points in only one of their previous 10 away games against them in the top flight (D4 L5).
After eight games in a row without a win in Serie A (D5 L3), Napoli won their last league game against Bologna (3-0); the Neapolitans have not won two consecutive games in the top flight since last February-March (against Sassuolo and Juventus), while they have not won two games in a row with a clean sheet in the competition since March 2023 (against Atalanta and Torino in that case, under Luciano Spalletti).
Parma have remained unbeaten in their first two games of this championship (draw against Fiorentina and win against Milan); the Emilians could go undefeated in their first three Serie A games of the season for the first time since 2003/04: one draw and two wins in that case, with Cesare Prandelli on the bench.
