Lazio failing to win the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, First Leg game against Bayern Munich on Tuesday 23 February 2021 at the Olimpico Stadium in Rome, Italy. A painful defeat for Lazio conceding three goals in the first half at the Olimpico for the first time in the Champions League. It’s now an uphill battle for Lazio to overturn this result in the Second Leg.
Not a good start. It is Bayern Munich to open the score in the 9th minute with Robert Lewandowski defeating Lazio goalkeeper Pepe Reina with a left footed shot in the bottom left corner. Bad luck for Lazio because the goal resulted from a short back pass of Musacchio intercepted by Lewandowski then getting rid of Reina in exit to smack the goal!
🏆👉 Lazio 0 – 1 Bayern Munich, 9th minute, goal by ⚽️ Robert Lewandowski @FCBayernEN with a left footed shot in the bottom left corner.

- It is the first official match between Lazio and Bayern Munich. Lazio have only lost 1 of their 6 Champions League games against German teams (2W, 3N) and have always remained unbeaten at home. Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 5 Champions League away games against Italian teams (3W, 2N). His two previous visits to the Champions League at the Olympic Stadium have produced 13 goals, including a 7-1 win against Roma in October 2014. Lazio reached the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first in 21 years (1999/00), the longest period of absence ever between two appearances at this stage for a single club in the competition. Bayern Munich have reached the knockout stage for the thirteenth consecutive season, only Real Madrid (24) and Barcelona (17) have a longer open streak. They made it to the quarter-finals in 10 of these 12 previous editions.
