Italian Soccer Serie A
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) Federal Court of Appeals handed Juventus their sentence on Monday 22 May 2023 regarding the “false accounting practices” case brought against Juventus earlier this year. The immediate penalty consisted of 10 points. This is a big slap as Juventus in Week 36 before the game with Empoli were in the 2nd position with 69 points and after the game, their new standings were 59 points. Juventus also lost the match Empoli 4 – 1 Juventus which ratified Empoli’s mathematical salvation.
Indirectly, the sentence gave good news for 5 teams still in the Champions League race for next season: Inter (66), AC Milan (64), Atalanta (61), AS Roma (60), and Juventus (59). Surely, a sour season for Juventus who were also eliminated by Sevilla in the Europa League Semifinal. After the postponement of the CONI Guarantee Board a month ago, Juventus club discovered the decision on the penalty reduced by five points compared to the first sentence when the penalty points were 15.
