Turkey triumphed over the United States with a score of 3-2 in a thrilling Group D finale of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 25, 2026. The match, held at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, concluded with a last-minute goal from Kaan Ayhan. Although Turkey had already been eliminated, this victory served to uplift the spirits of their supporters. It was great to see Italian coach Vincenzo Montella, affectionately known as "L'Aeroplanino," leading Turkey to this win. On a brighter note, the USMNT had already secured the top position in the group.

Goals: Arda Güler and Barış Alper Yılmaz both scored for Turkey, while Sebastian Berhalter netted one for the USMNT. Kaan Ayhan clinched the victory in the 98th minute.

Certainly, Serie A players representing Turkey must be celebrating this win: AS Roma defender Zeki Çelik, Inter midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu, and Juventus forward Kenan Yildiz.

Conversely, Serie A players from the United States, including Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie and AC Milan forward Christian Pulisic, can also rejoice in their qualification for the Round of 32. ⚽️   In the 3rd minute, Auston Trusty scores after receiving the ball from Berhalter at the corner flag, beating Çakır. Berhalter takes the corner from the left side and finds an unmarked Trusty, who skillfully controls the ball on the far side before sending a shot into the near post!

⚽️ In the 10th minute, Arda Güler scored after a beautiful team play initiated by Yilmaz. Güler executed a give-and-go with Aydin, cleverly maneuvering to create a bit more space before receiving the return pass from Aydin, just ahead of McKenzie. He then noticed Yilmaz making a run and allowed the ball to roll to the striker. Güler moved towards the penalty spot, ready to receive a pass, and goal!!!

⚽️ In the 31st minute, Orkun Kökcü scored after receiving the ball from Elmalı and beating Turner just a couple of steps from the goal. Montella's team turns the game around.

⚽️ In the 49th minute, Sebastian Berhalter scores after a series of deflections, placing the ball into the corner and leveling the score. The USA equalizes, and the crowd rallies behind the team with chants of USA, USA, USA!



 



 



 

AC Milan's Christian Pulisic enters the match as a substitute in the 58th minute, taking the place of Timothy Weah. The audience greets him with an enthusiastic chant.

⚽️ In the 98th minute, Kaan Ayhan scored a last-minute goal for Turkey, pushing the ball into the net for the lead. Vincenzo Montella's team snatched victory at the very last second, bidding farewell to the World Cup by defeating the USA.
