Switzerland - Algeria Official Lineups, Thursday, 2 July 2026, World Cup Round of 32

On July 2, 2026, Switzerland triumphed over Algeria with a score of 2-0 during the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 held at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada. Breel Embolo kicked off the scoring in the 10th minute, and Dan Ndoye extended the Swiss advantage in the 46th minute. Match highlights include Switzerland's captain Granit Xhaka achieving his 150th international cap, where he effectively managed the midfield alongside the emerging talent Manzambi.

After a streak of seven consecutive eliminations, Switzerland has successfully advanced past a knockout round in the World Cup for the first time since 1938, when they defeated Germany 4-2 in a replay of the first round.

Embolo scored by tapping in a fantastic cross from Johan Manzambi, who made a powerful run.  Ndoye took advantage of a defensive blunder by Algeria’s Rafik Belghali early in the second half.

Switzerland will return to the field on Tuesday, July 7, at 10:00 PM Italian time, where they will face the winner of the match between Colombia and Ghana.

Switzerland and Algeria both reached the Round of 32 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup through different paths in the group stage. Switzerland excelled in Group B, finishing unbeaten with seven points, while Algeria progressed from Group J as one of the top third-place teams after a thrilling draw against Austria.
