AS Roma triumphed in the Derby della Capitale, defeating Lazio on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome. Both Lazio and Roma struggled to perform at their best, partly due to the sweltering 30-degree heat at the Olimpico. Nevertheless, they fought hard until the final whistle. Roma secured victory with a goal from Lorenzo Pellegrini in the 38th minute: the former captain (not due to the Curva Sud, which honored him with a banner), the legendary player who seemed poised to leave during August and September, eagerly awaiting his debut in January.
Pellegrini found the net in the 38th minute, under the Curva Nord, then turned to face the Curva Sud, where he was enveloped in the warm embrace of his teammates, bursting into tears. He scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom left corner, assisted by Matías Soulé.

Lazio fought back, and in the 95th minute, Danilo Cataldi, a Roman like Pellegrini, who always finds special meaning in the derby, likely felt emotional. Coming off the bench to replace Rovella at halftime, he brought stability and direction to Lazio. First, he set Dia up for a chance on goal, but Dia, one-on-one with Svilar, missed the target. Then, Cataldi attempted a shot of his own, but the post denied him a moment of celebration in front of his supporters. The closing minutes were chaotic: while referee Sozza had not issued a single card in the first 80 minutes, he first booked N'Dicka, then sent off Belahyane (for a foul on Koné) and Guendouzi for a verbal offense. The match concluded with Roma celebrating under the Sud and Lazio expressing gratitude for their support under the Nord. The standings are challenging for Sarri's team: just 3 points from 4 games. Meanwhile, Roma rises to 9.
