The Serie A players from France featured AC Milan's goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who played the full match and achieved a clean sheet.   AS Roma's midfielder Manu Kone was on the bench as a substitute. AC Milan's midfielder Adrien Rabiot also played the entire match. Inter's forward Marcus Thuram was included as a substitute.

In a remarkable moment during the match, Kylian Mbappé achieved the status of the all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup knockout stages. He netted his ninth goal in these rounds, having played only nine matches across three tournaments, with a standout performance being his hat trick in the 2022 World Cup final. This achievement allowed him to surpass Brazil's Leônidas and Ronaldo, who each had eight goals in knockout round play.

This matchup marks the first time these two nations have played in the FIFA World Cup finals.
