Result USA vs Australia, Friday, 19 June 2026, World Cup Group D

The U.S. Men's National Team triumphed over Australia with a score of 2-0 in their Group D match held at Lumen Field in Seattle on Friday, 19 June 2026. This win allowed the U.S. to accumulate six points, ensuring their progression to the Round of 32 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will join co-hosts Mexico in the knockout stage. This is fantastic news for USA supporters, as well as for Juventus and AC Milan, who have players representing the USA. Following this match, the USA will conclude their Group D games with a match against Türkiye on June 25 at Los Angeles Stadium.



 

NOTE:   This 2026 tournament marks the first occasion that the USA and Australia have competed against each other in a World Cup match.

Please note: AC Milan's forward Christian Pulisic will not participate in the USMNT's World Cup group stage match against Australia because of a pre-existing calf injury. U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to rest the forward as a safety measure, giving his leg more time to heal after sustaining a tough blow in the opening victory against Paraguay.

FIFA Ranking:

In the FIFA Men's World Rankings, the United States is 15th, while Australia is 22nd.

How are they arriving at Matchday 2?

Both teams come into their Group D matchup in excellent form, with the USA having achieved a 4-1 win over Paraguay and Australia winning 2-0 against Türkiye in their opening matches.

The United States and Australia are meeting for the first time in a World Cup. Their previous four encounters were all friendlies, with the USA winning the last two: 3-1 in June 2010 and 2-1 in October 2025, where American striker Haji Wright scored twice with two assists from Cristian Roldan.

The USA's 4-1 victory over Paraguay in their opening match represents their largest winning margin in a World Cup, and it is also the first time they have scored four or more goals in a single match. The USA will aim for back-to-back victories in the tournament for the first time since their first two games in the inaugural 1930 edition, one of which was a three-goal victory against Paraguay.

⚽️ In the 43rd minute, Alex Freeman scores! A well-deserved second goal for the United States, as Freeman is quickest to head in a ball that had been deflected off Dest's shot. Initially, the goal was ruled out for an alleged offside, but VAR intervened to overturn the decision: Bos was actually keeping Freeman onside.
