Youth training camp concludes. Ventura: “The players responded very well.”

The future training camps will be held from 6th to 8th February, 10th to 12th April, 1st to 3rd May and 28th to 31st May. A friendly will then be played following the final gathering: “I must firstly consider our results but then I will think about the future,” Ventura added. “I have taken the decision to conduct these training camps and I have discussed the idea with various presidents, coaches and club hierarchies. I have explained the process to all of them. Some owners have encouraged me to do it.”

The coach also discussed the progress of Roberto Gagliardini, who recently replaced Claudio Marchisio for the games against Liechtenstein and Germany: “Perhaps he wont be the starting midfielder for the next ten years, but he is improving a lot,” he said. Mattia Caldara was also singled out: “He is one of the most promising players in defence, but we also have Daniele Rugani and Alessio Romagnoli,” he admitted. “When Leonardo Bonucci, Gigi Buffon and Andrea Barzagli all decide to retire, we must be able to replace them. We are working on this.”

Ventura will visit Empoli tomorrow and then Genoa on Friday, where he will continue his training ground visits with a trip to Sampdoria. The tactician also discussed the recent omission of Mario Balotelli: “He is not the type of player for these training camps,” he continued. “We are talking about a player that has featured in a World Cup. I want to speak with him and I have until March to see him in person. Once he has worked on himself, he will be in contention just like all of the other players.”
