🏆👉   The big match, the test “to pass” for Italy to dream with the qualification for the 2022 World Cup on Thursday 24 March 2022 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera in Palermo, Italy at 20:45.  There are only two precedents between Italy and North Macedonia, both in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup: a 3-2 win for the Azzurri on 9 October 2016 (double by Ciro Immobile and a goal by Andrea Belotti) away to Skopje and a 1-1 draw. 6 October 2017 in Turin (Giorgio Chiellini’s goal).

  • Here is the situation: Italy face North Macedonia in a single match in the playoff semifinal for Qatar 2022.   Italy MUST win the game and then face the away final game against the winner of Portugal vs.Turkey.

Italy achieved a 9-1 win in the last match played in Palermo on 11/18/2019 against Armenia, only against Egypt at the 1928 Olympics did the Azzurri score more goals (11) in a single match in their history.  Italy have won all of their last 7 games played in Palermo.

Italy have only won 2 of their last 9 games in the 90 minutes (6D, 1L), after a streak of 13 consecutive wins. After the 0-0 against Northern Ireland, Italy could run out of goals for two matches in a row for the first time in Roberto Mancini’s era.  The last time was in March 2018 (three in that case).   Italy have remained undefeated in their last nine World Cup qualifying matches (4W, 5D), keeping a clean sheet seven times – the last defeat dates back to the match against Sweden in the first leg playoff on 10/11/2017 in Stockholm (1-0).

Italy have remained unbeaten in their last 27 home games (15W, 12D, last defeat against France in a friendly on 1 September 2016), excluding the matches played in Italy registered as neutral games – only once have they recorded a longer streak: 39 internal match between 1971 and 1980.

North Macedonia finished second in its qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup, behind Germany and ahead of Romania, Armenia and Iceland. In its history, the team coached by Igor Angelovski has never obtained a pass for an edition of the World Cup.  Can they do it now?  We certainly hope for Italy to win.
