🇮🇹👉   The Italian National team started their first training on Monday 18 March 2024 ahead of the two friendly games against Venezuela and Ecuador. The training on the field of the ‘Giulio Onesti’ Olympic Preparation Center of Acqua Acetosa dedicated to Gianluca Vialli and the words of the coach Luciano Spalletti brought forward the departure for the USA.

Monday 18 March 2024 – Italy Team Schedule

  • 16.00 TRAINING open to the Media complete session at ROME CPO “Onesti” / Campo “G. Vialli”
  • 17:45 PRESS CONFERENCE: Italy Head Coach Luciano Spalletti, CPO “Giulio Onesti”

During the press conference, Italy Head Coach Luciano Spalletti commented, “We are going to receive the affection of our compatriots to whom we owe so many things. They are over there working and they have opened up new frontiers and new knowledge for us. They will be two matches that will allow us to organize something from the tactical. Will we find Chiellini and Cannavaro in America? We will remove some pieces and if possible we will insert them into some of our players, as is done with a graft in the countryside…”.

As for Francesco Acerbi  leaving the team, Spalletti commented,   “My thoughts are contained in the statement .  I would never want to find myself in this position, but we have the responsibility for what is a very important sport and for what our nation is. From what he told me Francesco, however, is not an episode of racism, so we must be careful even when we go to report an episode of this kind. We saw Francesco in difficulty and we regret from a human point of view having made these decisions, but we must stay pay attention to our behavior.”

Other focuses on individuals, starting with a rediscovered Lorenzo Pellegrini:  Spalletti added, “We’ve waited a long time for him, I’ve never had him available. He’s a footballer whose level is easy to evaluate: he knows how to do more things. I don’t know what will come out, but he is one of those you can count on. He had problems, he put them right: with the quality that Daniele De Rossi wants in Roma he expresses himself at ease.” De Rossi, whose work Spalletti is greatly appreciating: “I have taken a lot of what he has done in this period. He seems a bit like Carletto Mazzone to me, when he expresses being part footballer and part coach. He is doing a exceptional work and it wasn’t easy in such a short time. I wish the best possible to those who made everything they had available to me.” Among the protagonists of De Rossi’s Roma, also Gianluca Mancini, called in place of Acerbi: “He plays inside, he fits in, I see him building and then I find him in the opponent’s area. The fact that I hadn’t called him is not a failure not even for him, but because I know very well what players like Mancini, Politano and El Shaarawy, to give other examples, can give.”

Spalletti declared that in the United States, there might be a possible three-man defense tests: “But I think that football is a fluid thing, not rigid. You can move from one system to another, I want to evaluate this 3-4-2-1, it will depend on the characteristics of those who play. We have the possibility, by changing something, to be more surprising. A game system that can enhance players like Chiesa (“Man jumps, he knows how to score goals, he can pass into situations in which others see insurmountable walls”) or like Frattesi (“For what, intensity and quality he is someone who knows how to attack the defensive line like few others”).
