🏆👉  Inter humiliated AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 8 on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. Inter Milan guarantee their place in the Round of 16 of the newly structured of the UEFA Champions League.  The standout moment of the match was Captain Lautaro Martinez netting a hat-trick. Lautaro demonstrated his leadership by inspiring and rallying the team. What a fantastic performance, deserving of a standing ovation!

Lautaro has reached a milestone of 144 goals for Inter, surpassing Benito Lorenzi to claim the sixth spot on the club’s all-time goalscorer list. Additionally, with 17 goals in the Champions League, he is now tied with Sandro Mazzola as the top scorer for Inter in both the European Cup and UEFA Champions League. In another highlight, Giacomo De Pieri made his debut for Inter. The 18-year-old Primavera forward came on as a substitute for Lautaro Martinez in the 76th minute.

Impressively, Inter has now gone 13 home games without a loss in the Champions League, boasting 11 wins and 2 draws. This marks their longest unbeaten streak at home in the competition since the period from September 1963 to September 2002, when they were undefeated in their first 28 home matches.

⚫️🔵 What a quick start! In the 4th minute, Lautaro Martínez scored a penalty with a right-footed shot straight down the middle. The penalty was awarded after Denis Zakaria fouled Marcus Thuram in the box.

What an exciting match! Lautaro Martínez found the back of the net in the 16th minute with a fantastic right-footed shot right down the middle. Nicolò Barella set him up perfectly. You can definitely cheer for LAUTARO! He’s really stepping up as a leader for his team, scoring twice!

What an incredible moment for Lautaro Martínez! In the 67th minute, he found the back of the net with a fantastic left-footed shot right down the middle! And guess what? He completed his hat-trick! Inter leads 3-0!

Stats before the game

Inter has triumphed in their last two home matches against Monaco in European tournaments, securing a 1-0 victory in the 1963–64 European Cup round of 16 and a 3-1 win in the 1996–97 UEFA Cup semi-final.

In their most recent encounter, Monaco managed to defeat Inter 1-0 in April 1997 during the UEFA Cup, but they had previously lost all three of their initial matchups against the Nerazzurri in European play. When it comes to their away performance in the Champions League, Monaco has only claimed one victory in their last 10 matches (with 4 draws and 5 losses). Interestingly, that sole win occurred in Italy this season, where they beat Bologna 1-0 in November.

Inter has managed to keep a clean sheet in their last five home matches in the Champions League. The last team to achieve six straight home clean sheets in this tournament was Atlético de Madrid back in September 2016, while Juventus was the last Italian club to do so in September 2005.

Player Stats

Eliesse Ben Seghir, at just 19 years old, has participated in all seven of Monaco’s Champions League matches this season, starting in six of them. The only player under 20 who has logged more minutes than Ben Seghir in a single Champions League season for Monaco is Kylian Mbappé, who played 536 minutes in the 2016-17 campaign.

Lautaro Martínez has netted 14 goals in the Champions League while playing for Inter, matching Adriano as the club’s all-time leading scorer in this tournament. When considering the European Cup as well, only Sandro Mazzola has a higher tally with 17 goals for Inter in Europe’s premier club competition.

Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer has achieved six clean sheets in just seven matches during this season’s Champions League. The only Inter goalkeeper to surpass this record in a single season, spanning both the European Cup and Champions League, is André Onana, who managed eight clean sheets in 13 games last season.
