🏆👉 It’s disappointing news for Milan fans! AC Milan fell short in their UEFA Champions League Matchday 8 game against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, losing 2-1 at the Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb, Croatia. Despite Christian Pulisic finding the net, it wasn’t enough to clinch a win. As a result, Milan will now head into the knockout phase play-offs. The draw on January 31 could bring some crucial matchups, with a Juve-Milan derby potentially on the horizon for the Italian clubs.
Dinamo Zagreb opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Martin Baturina found the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the center. Gabbia made a mistake in setup, failing to control the ball properly, which allowed Baturina to seize the opportunity and outmaneuver Maignan.

🔴⚫️ Milan found their rhythm in the 53rd minute when “Captain America,” Christian Pulisic, scored to make it 1-1. He delivered a well-placed right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, assisted by Fikayo Tomori.

Stats before the game
Dinamo Zagreb has faced Milan six times in the past. Unfortunately, they’ve come up short every time. The most recent defeat being a 4-0 loss at home during the 2022/23 Champions League group stage. On the other hand, Milan has enjoyed a perfect record against Dinamo Zagreb. Their longest winning streak against any team in European competitions.
The Rossoneri have consistently found the back of the net. Milan scored at least three goals in each of their three away matches against the Croatian club. Additionally, Dinamo Zagreb hasn’t won any of their last five home games in the Champions League. They have recorded three draws and two losses. The only time they had a longer winless streak at home in this competition was between October 1999 and December 2012, when they went seven matches without a victory.
Following their victories against Real Madrid (3-1) and Slovan Bratislava (3-2), Milan is on the verge of achieving three consecutive away wins in the Champions League for the first time since the period of September to December 2000, when Alberto Zaccheroni was the coach.
In their last two Champions League campaigns, Milan has secured wins in their final group or league matches (4-0 against Salzburg in 2022/23 and 2-1 against Newcastle in 2023/24). This is a feat they hadn’t accomplished in their previous six attempts (with three draws and three losses) dating back to the 2009/10 season.
Player Stats
Christian Pulisic has made a significant impact in his last six Champions League matches for AC Milan. Pulisic has contributed to five goals with four goals and one assist. If he manages to be involved in another goal, he will break the season record for the most contributions in a single campaign. Currently it stands at four (three goals and one assist).
Sandro Kulenovic has netted three goals for Dinamo Zagreb in this Champions League season, with only one player having scored more in a single tournament for the Croatian side: Mislav Orsic, who found the net four times in the 2019/20 season.
Rafael Leão has made 26 successful dribbles in this Champions League. He is tying with Morgan Rogers for the most in the current tournament. Additionally, the Portuguese forward has also scored three goals in the 24/25 competition, matching his total from the 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24 seasons combined.
