Montella: “Criticism helps us mature. We want to reach the final”

Viola coach Vincenzo Montella met with the media this afternoon ahead of Fiorentina’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg at Udinese’s Stadio Friuli tomorrow night.

How’s Cuadrado?
“He’s better. There’s more chance of him featuring tomorrow.”

Udinese?
“They’re a team with many qualities that defend and counter in a very organised way. They know how to soak up pressure. It’s a game with a high-risk factor for us.”

Was the defeat to Cagliari just a blip?
“I saw lots of negatives. I think the criticism will help us to mature.”

What annoyed you most about the performance?
“I made the biggest mistake. We didn’t get our movement right so it was my fault.”

Diakité?
“He’s fine and ok to play.”

Ilicic?
“A very talented player. We have great belief in him and what he can do for us.”

Will Gomez play alongside Matri?
“Yes, he could but it’s too early to start considering tactical solutions.”

Is the UEFA squad list definitive?
“The list published is not set in stone yet. We have until midnight.”

How important is it to you to reach the final?
“We’re really determined to make the final. Getting there and having already guaranteed a Europa League spot for next season in February would be a fantastic achievement .”

Is this your most important game as a coach so far?
“For a coach the most important game is always the next one.”

Injury news: Gomez set to resume full training

ACF Fiorentina can provide the following medical updates regarding Ambrosini, Aquilani, Rebic, Tomovic and Gomez.

Massimo Ambrosini is suffering from Achilles tendinitis, which causes him difficulty when taking part in normal sports activities. He will visit a specialist in the next few days.

Alberto Aquilani picked up a Grade I hamstring strain during Saturday’s match against Cagliari. He has begun a recovery programme and is expected to remain sidelined for approximately two weeks.

Ante Rebic is suffering from metatarsalgia in his big toe and will have physiotherapy over the coming week.
