Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Serie A Week 12 RESULTS / Twelfth Round on Friday 10, Saturday 11, and Sunday 12 November 2023.  The battle for the Scudetto changed from a three-way to a two-way.  The race is very tight with Inter in the 1st position with 31 points and Juventus with 29 points.  The third place is for AC Milan with 23 points who wasted the chance to keep up with the race after the draw with Lecce.  Milan are now -6 points below Juve and -8 below Inter.   Let’s see if the race remains with just 2 contenders or whether we will see a change in the upcoming rounds.

The Serie A Week 13 will return on Saturday 25 November after the International Break.

Hellas Verona living a nightmare defeated by Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium. Surely, this is an important victory for Genoa who obtained three valuable points in the direct clash with Verona. Radu Dragusin’s volley on an assist from Haps decided in the first half. This is the fifth consecutive defeat for Verona, who after the double victory in the first two matchdays have only collected two draws in the last nine matchdays.

Milan cannot afford to lose more points if they want to battle for the Scudetto. Lecce and Milan ended with a draw at the Via del Mare Stadium. The winless streak continues for both teams but, given how the match was going, today’s result should be considered very positive for Lecce who are once again moving up their rankings, rising to 14. However, extremely negative feelings for Milan unable to manage the double advantage obtained in the first half and almost lost the game after a VAR review disallowed Lecce’s third goal.

A terrible home defeat for Napoli while Empoli conquered the Maradona in the last minutes with this prestigious victory. Surely, it is a great result for Empoli thanks to Kovalenko’s Eurogoal in the 91st minute. Great achievement also for Empoli Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli achieving five victories in six matches as coach against Napoli. Empoli got now 10 points in the standings, temporarily detaching themselves from the less noble areas of the standings. MVP is a sensational goalkeeper Berisha, author of at least four enormous saves. Napoli instead stumbles again: defeat after three useful results in a row and failure to overtake Milan in the standings, as the Azzurri remain at 21 points.

Fiorentina returned to victory after three defeats and joined Atalanta in fifth place on 20 points, Bologna, after a long positive series, found defeat again and remained stuck on 18. Fiorentina won a very hard-fought match full of reversals. The home team took the lead thanks to a surgical conclusion from Giacomo Bonaventura, the Emilians equalized with Zirkzee on a penalty. In the second half, it’s another penalty spot kick that restored the distance, with Gonzalez displacing Skorupski and giving Fiorentina the three points.

The Derby della Capitale between Lazio and Roma ended with a goalless draw at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. Previously, Lazio and Roma have faced each other 158 times in the league. In previous matches Lazio won 42 times, Roma won 56 times while there were 60 draws.  We might say it is a disappointing result for both.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 2nd position with 28 points and a positive goal difference of +21
Frosinone, 12th position with 15 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Inter took back the 1st position after winning the Serie A Week 12 game against Frosinone on Sunday 12 November 2023 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. Inter with 31 points grabbed this victory to send Juventus back to the 2nd position with 29 points. Amazing goal by Federico Dimarco in the 43rd minute, winning a left-footed shot from around 56 meters. The other goal was scored by Hakan Çalhanoglu converting a penalty.

Inter opened the score in the 43rd minute with a super goal. Federico Dimarco defeated Frosinone goalkeeper Stefano Turati with a left-footed shot from more than 40 yards to the high center. The assist is by Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Inter returned stronger in the second half and there you go in the 48th minute another goal. It is Hakan Çalhanoglu to convert a penalty with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Ilario Monterisi.

✅    Stats before the game: Inter won all four matches in Serie A against Frosinone, scoring 11 goals and conceding just one (Cassata on 14 April 2019, in Ciociaria). Among the teams against which they have always lost away in Serie A and against whom they have never scored away from home, only against Napoli (minus eight), Frosinone has a worse goal difference than against Inter (minus seven). In the last 19 Serie A matches, Inter have collected 16 wins, one draw and two defeats, averaging 2.6 points per game (49 in total) and collecting 11 clean sheets; in this period of time, the teams with the most points won in the competition after the Nerazzurri are Milan and Juventus, both at 39, 10 less than Inter in the period. Before Frosinone, there were 28 newly promoted teams to collect at least 15 points in the first 11 games of a Serie A championship in the three-points-for-a-win era: 27 of these survived at the end of the championship, while the only one to be relegated was Perugia in 1996/97. This is the fourth time that Inter have collected at least 28 points in the first 11 games of a Serie A championship in the three points for a win era, but only once in the previous three (2019/20, 2017/18 and 2009/ 10) then won the Scudetto at the end of the season.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lazio, 10th position with 16 points and a positive goal difference of +0
AS Roma, 7th position with 17 points and a positive goal difference of +8

The Derby della Capitale between Lazio and Roma ended with a goalless draw in the Serie A Week 12 game on Sunday 12 November 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. We might say this is a disappointment for both teams who remain out of the European zone. Previously, Lazio and Roma have faced each other 158 times in the league. In previous matches Lazio won 42 times, Roma won 56 times while there were 60 draws.

Sarri’s team was the one that had the most important opportunities, with a post by Luis Alberto and a deflection in front of goal by Romagnoli which goalkeeper Rui Patricio deflected with a dive. Roma better in the second half, but not very incisive in front of goal. Bottom line, Lazio and Roma did not go beyond 0-0.

The Derby della Capitale is the game that has seen the most red cards in Serie A in the era of three points for a win (since 1994/95), 38 expulsions in 58 matches in the period, including those of Ibañez, Cristante and Marusic in the last derby in March.

✅    Stats before the game: Since the single group existed (1929/30) this will be the 181st Rome derby considering all competitions, the 159th in Serie A: in the top championship the Giallorossi lead the balance, with 56 victories to 42, while 60 are the draws. Lazio have won in the last two Serie A derbies against Roma, without conceding any goals: they have not achieved three successes in a row against the Giallorossi in the top championship since 2012, but they have never won three Roman derbies in a row in the history of the competition without never concede goals. Lazio are unbeaten in the last six derbies played at home in Serie A (W4, D2) – already a record unbeaten streak at home for the Biancocelesti in the competition -, the Giallorossi’s last success as a visiting team dates back to the 0-2 on 4 December 2016 (goals by Strootman and Nainggolan). Lazio have already lost five games in this championship: with a defeat in the derby they would rise to six, equaling their worst figure in the era of three points for a win after the first 12 games of the season in Serie A (six defeats in 2015/16) . Considering the last eight days of the championship, Roma would be third in the standings, with 16 points behind Juventus and Inter (both 19): for the Giallorossi in this partial five wins, one draw and two defeats.

👉Lineup LAZIO (4-3-3): Provedel – Lazzari, Patric, Romagnoli, Marusic – Guendouzi, Cataldi, Luis Alberto – Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Pedro.

👉Lineup AS ROMA: (3-5-2): Rui Patricio – Mancini, Llorente, Ndicka – Karsdorp, Cristante, Paredes, Bove, Spinazzola – Dybala, Lukaku.
