Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 5th position with 24 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Juventus, 2nd position with 33 points and a positive goal difference of +13

Juventus take back the 1st position, at least for a day, after winning the Serie A Week 15 game against Napoli on Friday 8 December 2023 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy. This is the second consecutive victory for Juventus who, with the three points earned overtakes Inter with one point more than Inter, on the pitch tomorrow evening against Udinese. Not good news for Napoli because this is their third consecutive defeat between the championship and the Champions League. Napoli, failed to overtake Roma and risks being overtaken by Fiorentina (played against the Giallorossi on Sunday) and Bologna.

The hero again is Federico Gatti. After the decisive goal at the end of the match against Monza, the Juventus defender also repeated himself on the night at the Stadium by scoring, in the 51st minute, the goal that earned the three points for Massimiliano Allegri’s team, with a header from a cross from Cambiaso. In the first 45 minutes of the game, there was a great opportunity for Juventus, with Vlahovic’s shot from close range blocked by Natan, and two for Napoli, first with Kvaratskhelia’s error face to face with Szczesny and then with the Polish goalkeeper was the protagonist of a great save on Di Lorenzo’s sure shot. In the second half, the Bianconeri immediately hit the post with Vlahovic, even if Orsato stopped everything for offside, before taking the lead. The last gasp of Mazzarri’s team corresponds to a goal disallowed by Osimhen in the 70th minute, with the Nigerian doing well to take advantage of a wrong clearance by Szczesny to find the equalizer, but everything was nullified by the offside of the same number 9 following a suggestion from Politano .

Juventus opened the score in the 50th minute. Federico Gatti defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Andrea Cambiaso.

✅  Stats before the game: Juventus have won only one of their last seven matches against Napoli in the league (N1, L5): 2-1 on 7 April 2021, with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala for the Bianconeri and Lorenzo Insigne for the Neapolitans. Napoli have remained unbeaten in three of the last six Serie A away games against Juventus (2W, 1D), as many times as in the previous 12 away games against the Bianconeri; Furthermore, the Neapolitans have found the net in each of their last seven away games against the Vecchia Signora and have never done better against this opponent in the competition (seven also between 1948 and 1956). Napoli have lost 70 Serie A matches against Juventus, against no opponent have they recorded more defeats in the competition (equal with Inter); Furthermore, the Juventus team is the one against which the Neapolitans have conceded the most goals in the top championship (225).  Juventus is the team that has obtained the most points at home in this championship: 17 (5W, 2D), exactly the same as they had recorded after the first seven home games of last season, a tournament in which they also found success in the eighth. Napoli is the team that has obtained more points away from home (17) than at home (7) in this Serie A: +10 (Empoli and Inter follow in this ranking, with a difference of +3).

👉 Lineup JUVENTUS (3-5-2):  Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Chiesa, Vlahovic.

👉 Lineup NAPOLI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus, Natan; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Politano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.

Before the game, Juventus Coach received the “Coach of the Month Award”

AC Milan with a sprint race to remain in the Scudetto race after defeating Frosinone.  The victory gives an added boost to Milan ahead of the last Champions League game looking for qualification to the Round of 16.  Despite the defeat, Frosinone have gained 18 points in the first 13 matches of this championship, a figure that the Ciociari had reached at the earliest in the 23rd match of the season in Serie A (in 2015/16, 19 points in that case).

Lazio beat Cagliari at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium. Lazio took home an important victory, suffering at the end when Provedel saved the result against Pavoletti with a great intervention. Cagliari arrived at the Olimpico, fresh from the home draw against Monza and who are having a good moment with two wins and two draws in their last five outings. Lazio is still looking for a turning point, after a difficult start to the season which sees them in 9th position, despite qualifying for the Champions League round of 16 with one round to spare.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Torino, 12th position with 16  points and a negative goal difference of -16
Atalanta, 8th position with 20 points and a positive goal difference of +8

Torino won the Serie A Week 14 game on Monday 4 December 2023 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy. Torino move up in the standings, having overtaken Frosinone and Monza, now the Granata have 19 points in 10th position, one less than Atalanta who are stuck on 20 like Lazio. Good way to celebrate the 117th birthday for Torino.

An unrecognizable Atalanta dominated at the Olimpico, Zapata, the former player of the match, unlocked the match, then a goal scored from a penalty by Sanabria sealed the 2-0. Many opportunities for the Granata, few for Gasperini’s team, more in the first half with 2 shots on goal, then at the end of the match with two great saves from Milikovic-Savic. The Colombian striker was very inspired in injury time: the third goal was always scored by Zapata.

Bad news for Atalanta losing the game, despite their European qualification in the Round of 16.  The same cannot be said about the championship.  Atalanta have only one point in three games, due to defeats against Napoli and Inter and the draw against Udinese. After the draw against Monza and the latest defeat against Bologna, it is necessary to return to winning in the league and Torino will host Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.

Torino players Duván Zapata and Antonio Sanabria scored to give Torino the lead.

Image

The moment for the ex-Atalanta player to open the score in the 22nd minute. Duván Zapata defeated Atalanta goalkeeper with a left footed shot to the center. The assist is by Nikola Vlasic.

Referee Piccinini gave a penalty to Torino conceded by Giorgio Scalvini after a foul on Alessandro Buongiorno. In the 56th minute, it is Antonio Sanabria to convert the penalty with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Another slap to Atlanta by their ex-player Duván Zapata sealing the victory kn the 95th minute.

✅   Stats before the game: Torino have lost five of their last seven games against Atalanta in Serie A, conceding an average of 3.6 goals per match (2D); in the previous 12 matches against the Nerazzurri, the Granata had lost only twice (6W, 4N). Atalanta have won each of their last four Serie A away games against Torino: they have not managed to achieve consecutive away wins against a single opponent in their history in the competition. Among the 11 teams that Torino have faced at least 100 times in Serie A, Atalanta is the one against which they have lost the fewest matches in the competition (26 defeats in 108 previous matches). Atalanta have not found success in any of their last three championship matches (1N, 2L), after having won four of the previous six (1N, 1P); the last time the Bergamo team played multiple games in a row in Serie A without winning was between February and March 2023, with Udinese and Napoli within the series. Torino have obtained only eight points in the last eight Serie A matchdays, more than only Salernitana (five), Lecce (four) and Verona (two) in the same period; in this part of eight matches the granata did not find the net on five occasions, as many times as in the previous 25 championship matches.

👉Lineup TORINO (3-4-2-1): Milinkovic Savic; Tameze, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Linetty, Ilic, Vojvoda; Vlasic; Sanabria, Zapata.

👉Lineup ATALANTA (3-4-2-1): Musso; Djimsiti, De Roon, Scalvini; Hateboer, Koopmeiners, Ederson, Ruggeri; Miranchuk, Lookman; De Ketelaere.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 2nd position with 32 points and a positive goal difference of +23
Napoli, 4th position with 24 points and a positive goal difference of +12

Inter won in grand style the Serie A Week 14 game on Sunday 3 December 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. Inter returning to the top, Napoli finding themselves fifth on equal points with Roma but 11 points behind the Nerazzurri. Inter prevailed with a round 3-0 win over Napoli, in a closer match than the result shows. The Nerazzurri take the lead with Calhanoglu, Barella doubles the lead with Thurman who, in the final, closes the match. Napoli tried to respond blow for blow to Inzaghi’s team, finding the crossbar with Politano but above all an excellent Sommer, decisive on a conclusion from Kvaratskhelia and on Victor Osimhen.

Inter took the lead in the 44th minute before ending the first half. It is Hakan Çalhanoglu to defeat Napoli goalkeeper with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Nicolò Barella.

Nicolò Barella increased the score for Inter in the 61st minute from very close range with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Lautaro Martínez.

Inter sealed the victory in the 85th minute. Marcus Thuram sealed it from very close range with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Juan Cuadrado.

Stats before the game: Inter have won five of their last eight league games against Napoli (D2, L1), even if they lost the most recent one (3-1 on May 21st); the last time the Neapolitans won two games in a row against the Nerazzurri in the competition was in 2016/17. Napoli remained unbeaten in 16 of the 17 home matches against Inter played in the top championship in the 2000s (10W, 6D); in fact, the Neapolitan team is the opponent against which the Nerazzurri have the lowest percentage of away successes in the period among the teams faced more than once (6%). Inter have found the net in each of their last 10 Serie A matches against Napoli, the last time they scored in consecutive matches against the Neapolitans was between 1952 and 1957 (11). Napoli have scored in all of their last 15 Serie A matches against the league leaders at the start of the day (excluding the first four matchdays) and have remained unbeaten in three of the most recent four (W1, D2); in particular, in each of the last two they have recorded a 1-1 draw against Inter. Inter have won nine of their last 11 Serie A away games, scoring an average of 2.4 goals per match (26 in total); the exceptions in this set are a defeat against Napoli on May 21st and a draw against Juventus in the last round of the championship. Napoli and Inter are the two teams that in this championship have taken more shots (233 vs 212), touched more balls in the opponent’s area (414 vs 400), scored more Expected Goals (25.5 vs 25.9) and finally scored more goals (26 vs 30).
