Inter ended 2023 with a draw. 👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 17 RESULTS / Seventeenth Round on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 December 2023.  The battle for the Scudetto remains a two-way race.  The race is very tight between Inter with 44 points and Juventus with 40 points.  Undoubtedly, the absolute leader is Inter.    AC Milan slowed down and almost waved goodbye to the Scudetto after the draw with Salernitana.  Milan remained with 33 points in the 3rd position just +3 points above Fiorentina in the 4th position with 30 points.   Salernitana despite the draw are ending 2023 in the last position with only 9 points.

Roma with a print race to climb to the European zone defeated Napoli at the Olimpico.  Sadly, for Napoli who are the current Champions, that are out of the European zone. Napoli are in the 7th position with 27 points. Roma climbed to the 6th position with 28 points.

The good news is also for Hellas Verona leaving the relegation zone after defeating Cagliari.  Verona climbed to the 17th position while Cagliari are now down in the 18th position.  Despite Lazio beating Cagliari, Lazio are down in the 9th position with 24 points.

AC Milan returned to win defeating Monza with a 3-0.  Milan have now 32 points just -5 points below Juventus and -9 below Inter.   For the moment, we might say the Rossoneri are still dreaming with the Scudetto.

What a flop for Roma falling at the Dall’Ara Stadium losing their 6th position and going down to the 7th position. Surely, it is party time for Bologna with this prestigious victory also representing their 4th place reaching 28 points. Bologna are now in the European zone and will have to keep up their sprint race because Roma will surely increase their speed to regain in the next rounds their standings.

Another flop is for Lazio because they lost their home game beaten by Inter thanks to the goals of King Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram.   Fiorentina also celebrates after beating Hellas Verona.  Fiorentina and Napoli have 27 points just -1 point below Bologna.  Inter are rocking and for the moment they are the absolute leaders making a statement that they want to win the Scudetto.

Atalanta with eighth success of the season in Serie A overtook Roma (25 points) and rose to seventh place in the standings with 26 points, giving continuity to last Saturday’s 3-2 against AC Milan. Salernitana, however, remain in last place in the standings and is now five points away from safety. It’s chaos for Salernitana and they need to start asking for a miracle to survive.

Atalanta overturned the result and won the Serie A Week 16 game on Monday 18 December 2023 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. Eighth success of the season in Serie A for the Nerazzurri, who overtook Roma (25 points) and rise to seventh place in the standings with 26 points, giving continuity to last Saturday’s 3-2 against AC Milan. Salernitana, however, remain in last place in the standings and is now five points away from safety. It’s chaos for Salernitana and they need to start asking for a miracle to survive.

Salernitana opened the score in the 10th minute. Lorenzo Pirola defeated Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Antonio Candreva.

Atalanta equalized in the 47th minute. Colombian forward Luis Muriel defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Benoit Costil with a right-footed shot to the top left corner following a corner conceded by Pasquale Mazzocchi.

It seems Atalanta returned inspired in this second half. In the 52nd minute, Atalanta took the lead with the goal by Mario Pašalić

This is just chaos for Salernitana conceding another goal in the 83rd minute. Charles De Ketelaere scored with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Giorgio Scalvini.

✅   Stats before the game: Salernitana beat Atalanta in their last Serie A match (1-0 on 13 May 2023 with a goal from Candreva in the 93rd minute), after having collected three draws and two defeats in the first five matches in the competition against the Bergamo side. The match in Bergamo last championship (15 January 2023) between Atalanta and Salernitana ended 8-2 for the Dea: the only time in a Serie A match in which the Bergamo players scored at least eight goals. Inter remain the sole leader after winning the Serie A Week 16 game against Lazio on Sunday 17 December 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. This victory is a boost for the morale of the team after the bitterness of the draw against Real Sociedad which cost them first place in the Champions League group and continue their run at the top of the table.
