Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 2nd position with 63 points and a positive goal difference of +31
Atalanta, 6th position with 51 points and a positive goal difference of +20

Napoli win the Serie A Week 31 game defeating Atalanta on Sunday 3 April 2022 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.  Napoli at the top of the standings with 66 points same as AC Milan with 1 pending game.  Napoli did not give a chance to Atalanta after the honor goal by Marten de Roon.  Napoli and Atalanta have not drawn in their last six Serie A meetings played at the Gewiss Stadium: three wins apiece, with the last two won by the Nerazzurri.

A curious detail, Napoli have scored 8 penalties in a single Serie A campaign for the first time since their return in the top-flight (from 2007/08).   Atalanta have found the net with 18 different players in Serie A this season, more than any other side and a record for the club in a single top-flight campaign; the last side to have had more was Sassuolo, 19 in 2018/19.

Referee Marco Di Bello gave a penalty to Napoli conceded by goalkeeper Juan Musso. It is forward Lorenzo Insigne to take care of business converting the penalty with a right footed shot to the top left corner.

Atalanta without an idea conceded another goal. In the 37th minute, Matteo Politano scores for the 0-2 with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Lorenzo Insigne

Atalanta shortened the distance in the 58th minute. It is Marten de Roon to defeat Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina with a headed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Aleksey Miranchuk.

Napoli increased the score in the 81st minute for the 1-3. It is Eljif Elmas to score with a right footed shot to the center. The assist is by Hirving Lozano.

Stats before the game. Atalanta have won four of their last six Serie A games with Napoli (D1 L1), including their last two; only between 1997 and 1998 have they won three such games in a row (three 1-0 wins).  After failing to score in three consecutive Serie A matches against Napoli between 2009 and 2010, Atalanta have found the net in 19 of their last 21 such meetings against them .  After winning six consecutive Serie A games between November and December, Atalanta have won only three of their last 12 such matches (D5 L4).   Napoli and Atalanta have not drawn in their last six Serie A meetings played at the Gewiss Stadium: three wins apiece, with the last two won by the Nerazzurri.

👉 Lineup ATALANTA (3-4-2-1): Musso; Djimsiti, Scalvini, Palomino; Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler, Zappacosta; Koopmeiners, Malinovskyi; Muriel.

Salernitana, 20th position with 16 points and a negative goal difference of -43

Salernitana crying out for help lost the Serie A Week 31 game against  Torino on Saturday 2 April 2022 at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Italy.  Salernitana are in the last position. Torino with 35 points might be considered saved.  Federico Fazio living a nightmare after provoking the penalty converted by Andrea Belotti, the Salernitana defender has remedied the second yellow, and therefore the red, for a view held on Belotti. Nicola’s team closes with ten men since the 85th minute.

A sour stats for Salernitana failing to score in 15 different games so far, only fewer than Norwich (17) in the big-5 European Leagues 2021-22.

Torino opened the score in the 18th minute. Referee Piccinini gave a penalty to Torino conceded by Federico Fazio. It is forward Andrea Belotti to convert the penalty defeating Salernitana goalkeeper Luigi Sepe with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Spezia, 16th position with 29 points and a negative goal difference of -23
Venezia, 19th position with 22 points and a negative goal difference of -29

Spezia are dreaming with salvation after winning the Serie A Week 31 game against Venezia on Saturday 2 April 2022 at the Alberto Picco Stadium in Spezia, Italy.  The defeat for Venezia might be a signal for their imminent relegation to Serie B.  Spezia having +10 points lead over Venezia.  There are only 7 more games after this one and the panorama for Venezia looks somber.

On the thirty-second day, Thiago Motta’s team will visit Empoli while Zanetti’s team are expected from the derby against Udinese.

The only goal of the match and the “winner” one came at the last breath in the agonizing 94th minute.  Emmanuel Gyasi defeated Venezia goalkeeper Niki Mäenpää from very close range to the bottom right corner. A nightmare for Venezia, Caldara gives the ball to Manaj, Mäenpää’s miracle saves, Haps falls asleep, and on the rebound, bam!, Gyasi scores!

Stats before the game. Spezia won 2-1 on Week 4 against Venezia.   Venezia could become the first team to draw 3 away games against Ligurian sides in a single Serie A season following a 0-0 draw against Genoa in October and 1-1 draw against Sampdoria in December.  Spezia have lost 5 of their last six Serie A matches (W1): as many as in their previous 15.  Venezia have lost each of their last four league games, last losing five on the bounce in a single season at the start of 2001/02 under Cesare Prandelli.

AC Milan  (66) secured another victory maintaining the first position followed by Napoli (63) and Inter (60).  A tough away victory match for Pioli’s men who, thanks to Ismaël Bennacer’s perfect left-footed shot was enough to claim the victory.  Cagliari 0 – 1 Milan.  In the next round, Milan will host Bologna in San Siro and Cagliari will face Udinese at the Dacia Arena.  Milan achieving three consecutive wins without conceding goals since May 2021, against Benevento, Juventus and Turin.

Inter succumbed to the pressure of failing to win against Fiorentina at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.  The mission was to win and instead, this draw slows down the race for the Scudetto while Napoli defeated Udinese reaching 63 points. A point each between Inter and Fiorentina. The second consecutive draw for the Nerazzurri. Fiorentina shortens the distance from Rome, Atalanta (who played one game less) and Lazio, moving to -1 from the Giallorossi and Orobics, and to -2 from Lazio.

Napoli defeated Udinese at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.  Napoli are battling neck to neck with AC Milan for the Scudetto.  The hero is forward Victor Osimhen scoring a brace for the final result 2-1.  Napoli have remained now unbeaten in the last 12 Serie A matches against Udinese, from the 2016/17 season onwards (11W, 1D) – among the teams currently in Serie A, the Neapolitans have a longer open streak only against Torino (13 races in a row without losing).    In the next round, Napoli will face Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo while Udinese will host Cagliari.

Juventus keeping up the race for a spot in Champions League next season defeating Salernitana at the Allianz Stadium. Juventus win for the fourth consecutive time and reach 59 points just minus one point from Inter third with 60 points: the gap from Napoli second (-4) and Milan first (-7) remains unchanged. Salernitana, on the other hand, remains anchored in last place with 16 points, 9 less than Cagliari, first among the teams outside the relegation zone. This is a tough defeat for Salernitana remaining in the last position and their dream for salvation is just a mirage.  In the next round, Juventus will challenge Inter, with the aim of overtaking the Nerazzurri in third place. Salernitana, on the other hand, will have to face it at home Torino.

Roma win the Derby della Capitale claiming the bragging rights to rule in Rome, but also remain within the European Zone.  Undoubtedly, Roma won convincingly the Serie A Week 30 game crushing Lazio at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.  Lazio also lost the 6th position stepping down to the 7th position.   Roma are unbeaten at home against Lazio in Serie A since 30 April 2017 (3-1 biancoceleste starring Keita, author of a brace); since then, three wins and a draw.  Roma kept clean sheets for two consecutive home derbies (after last year’s 2-0) for the first time since 2011 (three in a row then).

Bologna was defeated by Atalanta at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.  Atalanta grabbed all 3 points thanks to the goal by debutant Moustapha Cissé, 18-years-old, who started as a substitute. Atalanta reached 51 points and hook Roma in 5th place, with a game to recover. Bologna stopped at 33 points. In the next round, Atalanta will host Napoli and Bologna will face AC Milan in San Siro.  Atalanta broke their stat previously not scoring in three Serie A away games and have not reached four in a row in the league since November 2015.

Spezia is closer to the relegation zone after losing against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium.   Spezia have lost ten away games this league, including their last two.   Sassuolo reached 43 points minus five from the Europe area, Spezia who now has to watch their back against Venezia, they could go to -4 in case of victory.

Genoa defeated Torino with a 1-0 reaching 22 points.  The victory gave a ray of hope for salvation to remain in the Serie A next season.  Torino unable to win despite playing with an extra player since the 24th minute when Referee Maurizio Mariani sent off Leo Ostigard.  Genoa are back from three 0-0 in a row and the last team to do more in Serie A was Como in 1986 (four).

Empoli and Hellas Verona ended with a 1-1 draw at the Carlo Castellani Stadium.   A point each that changes little in the standings of the two teams. In the next round, Empoli will face Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi, while Verona will host Genoa. Verona wasted the chance to take the lead after Giovanni Simeone failed to convert a penalty.
