Hellas Verona failed to win the Serie A Week 4 game ending with a draw against Empoli on Wednesday 31 August 2022 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. The defeat sees Verona risking going down to the relegation zone having only 2 points. Empoli with the first draw after the last eight Serie A matches played on Wednesday (3W, 5L) – the last one dates back to 3 February 2016 against Udinese (with Manuel Pucciarelli’s goal in injury time to recover the initial Juventus advantage of Duván Zapata).

Empoli opened the score in the 26th minute. Tommaso Baldanzi defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò with a left footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Sam Lammers. Baldanzi is the younger player to score a goal in the Serie A 22/23 and he is the first Empoli player born since 1/1/2003 to find the net in Serie A.

Hellas Verona equalized for the 1-1 in the 69th minute. Yayah Kallon defeated Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Josh Doig.

✅   Stats before the game:  Empoli and Verona have met 10 times in Serie A and the balance between the two teams is in perfect equality: four wins on each side and two draws, including the 1-1 draw in March 2022 of the last previous one. Empoli are unbeaten in the five home matches played in Serie A against Verona and Matteo Cancellieri’s on March 20, 2022 (1-1) was the first goal conceded by the Tuscans at home against Hellas after always getting the clean sheet in the first four preceding.  Empoli is the team that has drawn the most matches in the Italian top league since the beginning of 2022 (10 out of 22) – the Tuscan team has drawn the last two matches: in the whole of last season of Serie A only in February it had recorded two X signs in a row (against Bologna and Cagliari) and hasn’t reached three since March 2015. Monza having a tough time since their promotion from Serie B not winning a single game yet. Roma win the Serie A Week 4 game crushing Monza on Tuesday 30 August 2022 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Three precious points for Roma reaching 10 points thanks to a brace from Paulo Dybala and a goal from Ibañez. In the two previous league matches between Rome and Monza, both in Serie B in the 1951/52 season, the Giallorossi team has always obtained the clean sheet. Monza recorded three defeats in their first three Serie A games, the last team to lose all of their first four games in the top flight was Benevento in 2017/18.

In the next round, Roma will play the away game in Udine, while Monza will host Atalanta.

Chaos for Monza! Roma increased the score for the 3-0 in the 61st minute. It is Ibañez to score with a headed shot to the center. The assist is by Lorenzo Pellegrini with a cross following a corner conceded by Marlon Santos.

✅   Stats before the game: Roma have won both league precedents against Monza (2-0 away in December 1951 and 1-0 at home in April 1952, both in Serie B). Monza, on the other hand, achieved success in the only previous match between the two teams played in August (2-1 at the home of the red and white in the Italian Cup in 1988). AC Milan returning to Sassuolo after 100 days of winning the Scudetto last season.  Milan and Sassuolo ended the Serie A Week 4 game with a goalless draw on Tuesday 30 August 2022 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy. Sassuolo stops Milan at 0-0: Rossoneri started very strong, they risked a lot on 22` when goalkeeper Mike Maignan rejected Domenico Berardi’s penalty. Milan reached 8 points and will play the Derby against Inter in the next round.

Sassuolo had the chance to score.  In the 21st minute, Referee Giovanni Ayroldi granted a penalty to Sassuolo conceded by Alexis Saelemaekers after a foul on Giorgos Kyriakopoulos. Domenico Berardi takes the penalty shot and failed with Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan rejecting the ball. Save!

✅   Stats before the game.  Sassuolo and Milan meet for the fourth time in a midweek Serie A round: Sassuolo have won 2 of the previous 3 (both 2-1 at San Siro in January 2015 and April 2021), but have lost the only one played at the Mapei Stadium (1-2 in July 2020).
Sassuolo won the match in the first half of last season against Milan, after six consecutive seasons in which they had not found wins in the first half of the tournament against the Rossoneri – only Eusebio Di Francesco (2013/14 and 2014/15 ) managed to win two of these challenges consecutively.  Sassuolo drew their last league match (2-2 v Spezia), Sassuolo have not get two draws in a row in Serie A since last December (against Napoli and Spezia in that case).   After the 1-1 against Atalanta in Bergamo on the second day of this championship, Milan could miss the three points for two consecutive Serie A away games for the first time since February 2020 (on that occasion they lost against Inter Milan and draw against Fiorentina).  Milan have remained unbeaten in their last 19 league games (13W, 6N), in the era of three points to win, only twice have the Rossoneri recorded a streak of at least 20 straight games without defeat in Serie A: 20 between the March and November 1999 with Zaccheroni at the helm and 27 between June 2020 and January 2021 with Pioli.

Lazio win in grand style defeating Inter at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.   Coach Simone Inzaghi returning to the Olimpico to lose against his ex team. Inter lost their first game this season.  Felipe Anderson broke the deadlock in the 40th minute thanks to an assist from Milinkovic-Savic. Lautaro Martínez equalized the score in the 51st minute. At 75′ Luis Alberto, Pedro sealing the victory in the 86th minute. Lazio with 7 points overtaking Inter remaining with 6 points.  In the next round, Inter will play at home against Cremonese while Lazio will play the away game against Sampdoria.

What a blow for Monza  still looking to win their first points.  Monza defeated by Udinese at the  U-Power Stadium.  Udinese  win their first game this season reaching 4 points.  The hero is Destiny Udogie scoring the winner goal.   Monza losing three consecutive games.  In the next round, Monza will face Roma at the Olimpico, while Udinese will see it at home against Fiorentina.

Cremonese still looking for their first victory.  Torino defeated Cremonese at the Giovanni Zini Stadium.  Cremonese losing their first three games without points.  Torino caused an upset creating despair for Cremonese. Torino reached 7 points. A very intense match that ignites in the last ten minutes after Cremonese reopened the match, with Sernicola’s goal, which seemed to have ended up 0-2 thanks to goals from Vlasic and Radonjic.

AC Milan defeated Bologna at the San Siro Stadium.  Milan continue their streak with 19 consecutive unbeaten matches (13W,  6D)  which is the longest unbeaten run currently open in the five major European leagues.  Milan with a needed sprint claimed the victory and full 3 points to climb the Serie A Standing. De Ketelaere, author of the winning pass for Rafael Leão. Absolutely, Leão brilliant performance with a goal and assist for Olivier Giroud.

Juventus and Roma ended with a draw at the Allianz Stadium.   Roma with their heads held high played with character against a Juve wiped out in talent by injuries. Roma show that they can play in big matches even without Zaniolo, with the Special One very good at finding the resources to change the team in a really short bench.  Bottom line, Juventus failed to close the match despite ball possession and having the lead in the first half. The Roman gladiators grabbed this golden point thanks to the equalizer goal by Tammy Abraham responding to the goal by Dušan Vlahović.  In the next round, Juventus will face Spezia and Roma will play the home game against Monza.

Spezia and Sassuolo having same points ended with a draw at the Alberto Picco Stadium. Davide Frattesi breaks the balance in the 27th minute, Bastoni responds in the 30th minute, Nzola converted a penalty. In the second half Pinamonti signs the final 2-2. Ekdal sent off in the 81st minute after 2 yellow cards. Spezia has not drawn a Serie A home game since 19 December 2021: since then for the Ligurians four home wins and seven defeats. In the next round, Spezia will play the away game against Juventus, Sassuolo will play at home against Milan.

Salernitana trashed Sampdoria and convincingly win with a 4-0 at the Arechi Stadium.  What a way to change the stats, Salernitana have not found the goal in their last two Serie A home games, after having scored in seven of the previous eight – prior to that positive streak. Simply put, Salernitana humiliated Sampdoria with a poker not even giving them the chance to score the honor goal.  Salernitana win their first game this season reaching 4 points climbing from the 13th to the 10th position while Sampdoria remain with 1 point stepping down from the 16th to the 18th position.  Special victory for Salernitana winning for the third time a Serie A match with 4+ goals in their history on 6/5/1948 v Pro Patria (5-0) and 25/04/1999 v Bologna (4-0).  In the next round, Salernitana will play the away game against Bologna while Empoli will host Lazio

Lecce claimed their first point this season after ending the draw against Empoli at the Via del Mare Stadium.  Empoli scoring their first goal this season and the hero is Fabiano Parisi. Lecce leaving the relegation zone climbing from the 18th to the 15th position. Empoli down from the 13th to the 14th position.
