AC Milan playing the first game of the season in San Siro look to win the Serie A Week 2 game against Torino on Saturday 26 August 2023 in Milan, Italy. Milan and Torino have drawn 56 times in 153 matches in Serie A; both have recorded more draws only against Lazio in the top division (59 for the Rossoneri, 58 for the Granata).

  • Christian Pulisic became the fifth player in AC Milan history to score in both of his first two Serie A appearances in the three-points-per-win era (since 1994/95), after Oliver Bierhoff, Andriy Shevchenko, Mario Balotelli and Jérémy Ménez.
  • Olivier Giroud has scored all seven of his penaltiestaken in Serie A: since his debut in the top flight, the Frenchman has scored the most of any player with a 100% record (7/7).
  • AC Milan have scored at least three goals in three consecutive home gamesin Serie A (Samp and Verona in 2022/23 and Torino in 2023/24) for the first time since July 2020 (against Juventus, Parma and Bologna).

“Captain America” made his presence felt in San Siro by opening the score in the 33rd minute. Christian Pulisic defeated Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from very close range with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Torino equalized in the 36th minute. Perr Schuurs defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Samuele Ricci.

AC Milan took the lead again in the 43rd minute. Forward Olivier Giroud converted a penalty with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Alessandro Buongiorno.

AC Milan rocking scored a third goal before ending the first half in the 45th minute. Forward Theo Hernández scored with a left footed shot to the center. The assist is by Rafael Leão. Perfect duo are making wonders for the Rossoneri.

Yunus Musah made his debut with AC Milan in the Serie A in the 67th minute after replacing Loftus-Cheek.

✅   Stats before the game: Milan have won five of their last seven Serie A matches against Torino (D1, L1), as many victories as in their previous 15 matches against the granata in the tournament (D8, L2). Torino’s last victory away against Milan in Serie A dates back to 24 March 1985; the Rossoneri have, in fact, remained unbeaten in the following 27 home games against the granata in the tournament (W19, D8) and only against Verona do they have a longer open streak of home games without defeat in the competition (31). Between this and last season AC Milan have won their last four matches in Serie A and are no better than a run of seven consecutive wins between the end of 2021/22 and the start of 2022/23; that series stopped right on the second day (draw against Atalanta). Milan scored eight goals in their last two home games of last season, five against Sampdoria and three against Verona; the Rossoneri have not scored at least three goals in three consecutive Serie A home games since July 2020, against Juventus, Parma and Bologna in that case.

Monza got their first victory winning the Serie A Week 2 game on Saturday 26 August 2023 at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy. Andrea Colpani’s first brace with Monza beat Empoli 2-0 on their home debut in Serie A and got their first three points of the season. Victory almost easily for Monza who dominate, risk little and bring home the first three points of their season. The undisputed MVP of the match opened and closed the scoring: Andrea Colpani, who condemned Empoli to their second defeat in two games.

Tough defeat for Empoli who have not won away in Serie A since 23 January, precisely against a team from Lombardy (1-0 against Inter thanks to Tommaso Baldanzi’s goal).

In the next round, the third, Empoli will have to face Juventus at home, while Monza will be guests of Atalanta in Bergamo.

Monza opened the score in the 45th minute. Andrea Colpani defeated Empoli goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Samuele Birindelli.

A superb match for Colpani scoring a brace in the 52nd minute!!!

✅   Stats before the game: Monza and Empoli met in Serie A only in the last championship: balance in balance with a home victory for each side (1-0 at Empoli in the first leg, 2-1 in Monza in the return leg). Monza have won both of their home games played against Tuscan teams in Serie A: 2-1 against Empoli on 4 March 2023, 3-2 against Fiorentina on 23 April. Monza have lost all of their last three Serie A matches, between this and last season, and have only done worse once in the tournament, when they suffered five straight defeats in their first five Serie A matches, under the guidance of Giovanni Strop.
In the last nine Serie A home games, Monza has never repeated the same result twice in a row (W3, D3, L3): defeat against Lecce in the most recent one, on 28 May. Frosinone  win the Serie A Week 2 game against Atalanta on Saturday 26 August 2023 at the Benito Stirpe Stadium in Frosinone, Italy. Frosinone lost the first game of this championship and in their two previous experiences in Serie A (2015/16 and 2018/19) they only got one point in the first two games of the season (0-0 against Bologna on 26 August 2018).  This  is a tough defeat for Atalanta.

Frosinone ends the first half with two goals ahead, In the 5th minute Harroui unlocks it with a low shot, after Marchizza snatches Lookman. The doubling arrives in the 24th minute with Monterisi’s paw on the developments of a corner kick. In the second half, the Goddess shortened the distance thanks to a goal by Zapata, who received in the area from Ederson and beat Cerofolini. In the final, the home team closes well and concedes almost nothing.

In the next round, Frosinone will be a guest of Lecce, while Atalanta will face Monza within friendly walls.

Frosinone opened the score in the 5th minute. Abdou Harroui defeated Atalanta goalkeeper with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Riccardo Marchizza.

Chaos for Atalanta conceding another goal in the 23rd minute. It is Ilario Monterisi to score with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner following a corner conceded by Éderson.

Atalanta shortened the distance in the 54th minute. It is Colombian forward Duván Zapata to defeat Frosinone goalkeeper with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Éderson.

✅  Stats before the game: Among the teams Atalanta has faced more than twice in Serie A, Frosinone is the only one to have never scored against the Bergamo players: in four matches, 11 goals from the Goddess and zero from the Ciociari. In two home games against Atalanta in Serie A, Frosinone earned a point thanks to a 0-0 draw on 23 January 2016; the ciociari then lost the other home match against the bergamaschi 0-5 on 20 January 2019. This will be Frosinone’s second home match in Serie A 2023/24; as soon as possible the ciociari achieved their first seasonal home success in the competition in the third match held within the friendly walls, in 2015/16. From the 3 Serie B promoted teams, two had a bad debut in Serie A, we might say Cagliari had a decent debut with a goalless draw against Torino.  Frosinone crushed at home by the Reigning Champions “Napoli.”   Genoa humiliated by Fiorentina also at the Marassi Stadium.

The happiest of all, Napoli, who have won in all of their last seven Serie A debuts, six of these played away. Napoli had not conceded a goal within the first 7 minutes of play in their debut league match since August 1995 (Protti, Bari-Naples 1-1).

AC Milan celebrating the victory. Great start for Christian Pulisic becoming the fifth American player to score a goal in Serie A after Alexi Lalas, Michael Bradley, Weston McKennie and Gianluca Busio and the first to do so on his debut in the Italian top flight. Olivier Giroud’s goal against Bologna is the first scored with his right foot of the 33 scored by the French player for Milan in all competitions.

Massimiliano Allegri became the second Juventus coach to reach the milestone of 250 victories in all competitions since 1929/30, after Giovanni Trapattoni (319).  Udinese have lost three of their last four Serie A debuts (D1), as many defeats as in the previous seven seasons in the top flight.

An added incentive for Hellas Verona because they have won for the first time an away game in their season opener. Previously, Verona had collected nine defeats and four draws away from home in Serie A in the first match of the season.

A curious detail, both of Federico Bonazzoli’s last two away goals in Serie A came against Empoli at the Castellani Stadium: the first on 14 May 2022 against Salernitana.

As for Fiorentina, it was since 1997 that Fiorentina had not won an away Serie A season opener (3-2 at Udinese).  Fiorentina have scored at least four goals in an away Serie A opener for the first time since September 1956 (5-2 v Udinese).  Surely, this is a good sign for Viola fans to expect a top performance this season.

Inter have won five league debuts in a row for the third time in their history after also succeeding between 1951 and 1955 and between 1993 and 1997.  The leading motor is Argentinean forward Lautaro Martínez scoring a brace.  Lautaro has been involved in 101 goals in Serie A (81 goals and 20 assists). Since his debut in the Serie A (since 2018/19), only Ciro Immobile (138) and Domenico Berardi (108) have done better.

Charles De Ketelaere scored his first Serie A goal after 33 appearances and 22 shots in the competition.  Despite Atalanta being the team that has recorded the most defeats in their first Serie A match of the season (27), the Dea have won all of their last six opening matches in the tournament.

Forward Andrea Belotti scored his first two goals in Serie A for AS Roma, scoring again for the first time in the competition since 1 May 2022 (hat-trick against Empoli with Torino) and thus ending a streak of 34 consecutive games without goals active in the competition, of which the last 31 with the yellow and red shirt.

For the first time, Lecce won their season debut in Serie A, before today the Apulians had obtained six draws and 11 defeats in this league match. Ciro Immobile has reached 200 goals in the big five European leagues. Furthermore, this was Immobile’s 100th away goal across the big five European leagues.

Torino-Cagliari finished 0-0 for the 14th time in Serie A, confirming the most frequent result in meetings between these two teams in the competition. However, that hadn’t happened at Torino since January 1980. Cagliari have remained unbeaten in eight of their last nine Serie A matches against Torino (W3, D5). The Sardinians have also drawn four of their last five Monday matches in the competition.

Antonio Candreva scored his fourth brace in Serie A against Roma: the last one dates back to 24 January 2016, again at the Stadio Olimpico but with the Lazio shirt (vs Chievo Verona).

The big challenge to start the new season with a win. Milan started off on the right foot and beat Bologna 2-0 thanks to goals from Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic by winning the Serie A Week 1 game on Monday 21 August 2023 at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium in Bologna, Italy.

Milan therefore responds to Inter, Napoli, Juventus, Fiorentina, and Atalanta hooks them up to 3 points, completing the group also formed by Lecce and Hellas Verona. The Rossoneri only need one time to bring home the victory. In the 11th minute Pulisic serves Reijnders at the far post, who makes the bank in the center for Giroud who beats Skorupski with his right foot. The double goal came ten minutes later: Pulisic, unleashed in the first half, asked for and obtained a one-two from Giroud on the edge of the area, then unloaded a right-footed shot towards the far post and slipped it in where the rossoblù goalkeeper couldn’t Nothing. In the second half, the Rossoneri managed the ball and in the final Leao was stopped by the post.

The next match will see AC Milan at home against Torino, while the Bologna will play the away game against Juventus.

With Stefano Pioli at the helm, Milan have always won on the first day of Serie A (three times), the last coach who achieved more consecutive successes in the Rossoneri’s first match of the season was Fabio Capello (five between 1991 and 1995 ).

AC Milan opened the score in the 11th minute. The first goal of the season for the Rossoneri is scored by Olivier Giroud defeating Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Tijjani Reijnders.

Surely, Milan are inspired. Party time, the American Christian Pulisic saying “Present, here I am”. Pulisic scored in the 21st minute with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Olivier Giroud.  Great start for Pulisic becoming the fifth American player to score a goal in Serie A after Alexi Lalas, Michael Bradley, Weston McKennie and Gianluca Busio and the first to do so on his debut in the Serie A.
