Mission accomplished! Napoli triumphed in their Serie A Week 9 match against Lecce on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. This victory is crucial as it keeps Napoli firmly in first place in the league standings. With this win, they now have 22 points.  Lecce, on the other hand, remains in the relegation zone with just 5 points.

The Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus ended with a draw at the iconic Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.  A total of eight goals, and it will definitely be remembered in history. Motta’s substitutions played a crucial role, particularly the introduction of Yildiz, who scored an incredible brace to help Juventus equalize. The first half concluded with Inter leading 3-2. The Nerazzurri extended their lead to 4-2 thanks to Dumfries and came close to scoring a fifth on multiple occasions with Dimarco, Thuram, and Dumfries again. In the end, Juventus fought back to secure a thrilling 4-4 draw, with both teams earning a point.

Atalanta crushed Hellas Verona with an astonishing score 6-1.  What a fantastic way to honor Atalanta’s 117th birthday! The club founded on October 17th, and the celebration to commemorate this milestone today Saturday, October 26th, at the Gewiss Stadium. Happy Birthday, Atalanta!

The match between Bologna and Milan has been postponed due to inclement weather, with a new date yet to be decided. It was originally set to take place on Saturday, October 26, at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. This decision was made following an emergency meeting of the Lega Calcio’s board of directors. Torino beat Como at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium.  This victory marks a turning point for Torino.   After suffering three straight losses in Serie A against Lazio, Inter, and Cagliari, they were on the brink of a troubling streak.   This victory boosts the Granata to 14 points. Meanwhile, Como’s struggles continue, as they face their second loss in three matches.

Fiorentina claimed victory crushing Roma with a 5-1 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.  Roma faced a significant defeat! After going down 3-1 in the first half, the Giallorossi couldn’t find their footing in the second half. The Viola quickly scored again, making it 4-1 with a goal from ex-player Edoardo Bove, followed by Kouame’s header that led to an own goal by Mats Hummels. To add to their woes, Roma finished the game with ten men after Marion Hermoso was shown a second yellow card in the 65th minute. In short, it was a match to erase from memory for Roma, while Fiorentina supporters have much to cheer about.

Parma and Empoli ended with a draw.   Parma has secured their third consecutive draw, climbed the standings but still fallen short of their second win in this championship. Their comeback was promising, especially in the second half, where they played with greater determination. They equalized in the 80th minute thanks to Charpentier, who found the net with an assist from Valeri. However, just three minutes later, Bonny missed a golden opportunity to put Parma ahead when he failed to convert a penalty. Bonny hit the crossbar instead.

Monza and Venezia ended with a 2-2 draw at the U-Power Stadium.  It was an electrifying first half, packed with four goals and Monza equalizing against Venezia twice. The second half, however, was a bit dull. Monza found themselves down to ten men after Warren Bondo was shown a red card in the 80th minute, but Venezia couldn’t make the most of it. Both teams ended up sharing the spoils with one point each. Venezia is struggling in 19th place with only 5 points, while Monza sits in 15th with 8 points.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game
Monza, 16th position with 7 points and a negative goal difference of -1
Venezia, 20 position with 4 points and a negative goal difference of -9

Monza and Venezia ended with a draw during the Serie A Week 9 match on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy.

In their last two encounters, specifically in Serie C 2014/15 and Serie B 2020/21, Monza claimed victory in the first leg, while Venezia triumphed in the return leg. Interestingly, all these wins occurred on the road.

Venezia got on the scoreboard first in the 14th minute when Mikael Ellertsson found the back of the net with a stunning left-footed shot into the top left corner, assisted by Gaetano Oristanio.

Monza leveled the score in the 23rd minute when Georgios Kyriakopoulos found the net with a left-footed strike from the left side of the box, sending the ball into the bottom right corner. Pedro Pereira provided the assist.

Venezia regained the advantage in the 39th minute when Michael Svoboda found the net with a header, directing the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal. The assist came from Magnus Kofod Andersen.

Monza leveled the match in the 44th minute when Milan Djuric found the net with a left-footed shot aimed at the bottom left corner, thanks to a clever through ball from Georgios Kyriakopoulos.

Stats before the game

Venezia has triumphed in their last two away league matches against Monza, with a combined score of 6-2, spanning Serie C and Serie B. Meanwhile, Monza has secured victories in four out of their last five Serie A encounters with newly promoted teams, suffering just one loss. Prior to this, they managed only one win in their first five matches against such opponents, recording three draws and one loss. On the other hand, Venezia has faced challenges, losing five of their last six league games, with just one win. However, the Lagunari have shown resilience, remaining unbeaten in four of their last five Serie A matches when starting at the bottom of the table, with two wins and two draws, only faltering in their latest game against Atalanta (0-2).

Monza celebrated a much-needed 3-0 victory over Hellas Verona, marking their first Serie A win after a challenging stretch of 16 league matches without a victory. The last time the Brianza squad managed to secure back-to-back wins in the league was in March, when they triumphed over Genoa and Cagliari.

On the other hand, Venezia has struggled on the road, losing 10 of their last 12 away matches in Serie A, with just 2 draws to show for it. Their last away victory was on February 12, 2022, when they staged a comeback to beat Torino 2-1, thanks to goals from Ridgeciano Haps and Domen Crnigoj after Josip Brekalo had opened the scoring. Additionally, Venezia has the unfortunate distinction of conceding the most goals in the first half hour of play this Serie A season, with seven goals—matching the total they allowed in the entire first half of the previous season.

Monza is currently the only team in Serie A that hasn’t scored from a dead ball situation, with all eight of their goals coming from open play. In the top five European leagues for the 2024/25 season, Real Sociedad, Toulouse, and Bochum also have all their goals scored from open play.

Player Stats

Dany Mota has been a key player for Monza, netting four of their eight goals, which accounts for 50% of their total.

The only player with a higher percentage of goals for his team in Serie A is Nikola Krstovic, who has scored two out of three attempts, giving him a 67% success rate. Additionally, Filip Stankovic made his debut against Atalanta 11 years and 224 days after his father Dejan last played in Serie A back in March 2013. If he manages to keep a clean sheet, he could become the second youngest Venezia goalkeeper to do so in the top division since the three points for a win system was introduced in 1994/95, following Francesco Benussi, who achieved this at 18 years and 170 days in April 2000.
