The Four Italian Teams in the 2025-26 Champions League:
NAPOLI: They secured the 1st place with 82 points, winning the Serie A Scudetto. Napoli won the 2024-25 Serie A title by defeating Cagliari 2-0 on May 23, 2025. This victory marked Napoli’s fourth league title in the club’s history and their second in three seasons. Napoli retained their coach, Antonio Conte.
INTER MILAN: They ended up 2nd with 81 points in Serie A. Additionally, they reached the 2024-25 Champions League Final but lost to Paris Saint Germain on May 31, 2025, in Munich, Germany. This puts Inter under pressure, especially with a new coach after Simone Inzaghi was dismissed. The new coach is Christian Chivu.
PSG 5 – 0 Inter.
ATALANTA: They finished third with 74 points in Serie A. Atalanta has a new coach this season. The legendary Gian Piero Gasperini has left the team and is now managing AS Roma. Atalanta’s current coach is Ivan Juric.
JUVENTUS: They took the fourth spot with 70 points in Serie A. Igor Tudor was appointed as Juventus’s new head coach in March 2025, taking over from Thiago Motta after his dismissal.
Why Did Italy Lose a Fifth Spot in the 2025-26 Champions League?
Last season, Italy had a fifth team in the competition. UEFA awards two bonus Champions League spots to countries whose clubs excel in Europe each season. This is why Italy lost that prized fifth spot, as their rankings dropped. Meanwhile, England and Spain outperformed Italy in the rankings.
