US Tour, training at Catholic University with new Inter Club

< ![CDATA[

WASHINGTON, DC – Little by little, it’s becoming the United States of Inter. New York, New Jersey, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles… and now Washington, DC too. A sixth official Nerazzurri supporters’ club has been formed in the USA – in time for Inter’s arrival in the capital. And so Mazzarri’s men received a very pleasant surprise: the newly formed Inter Club Washington Erick Thohir was there to meet them.

Officially founded today, this group of around 50 Inter fans stood waiting for Mazzarri’s men, defying the heat and humidity. An all-American welcome for the Nerazzurri, complete with smiles, hugs and autographs.

On the pitch at the Catholic University, Mazzarri put his players through a light session after their long translatlantic flight. There was a warm-up followed by technical work with the ball and some stretching exercises.

Williamson: “Inter in the USA for big challenges”

< ![CDATA[

WASHINGTON, DC – Michael Williamson is with Inter in the States: it’s a homecoming for him, back in the city where he used to live. Interviewed by NBC Universal on the day Inter landed in DC, the Nerazzurri CFO began by discussing his relationship with the States: “Obviously I love the Washington community and the States. And it’s fantastic to be here with Inter at this stage of the season.”

The players have just arrived at the Catholic University, where they will carry out their International Champions Cup preparations. They’re still working their way back up to fitness in these first few weeks and Williamson was keen to stress: “Although it’s still pre-season we want to do well. We have a team that’s a mix of leaders and youngsters: together they can achieve great things.”

Finally, the former DC United COO spoke about vice president Javier Zanetti, who is due to arrive in Washington, DC in the coming hours: “We’re delighted to have him as our vice president. He’ll bring the same enthusiasm as he did during his playing days. It’s a great opportunity for all the fans to see him here on our US tour.”

#InterForUS, straight into the mood

< ![CDATA[

WASHINGTON, DC – You’re tired after the long flight and the clock is lying to you: it says you’re six hours behind. Your body is telling you the same thing. But when you arrive in Washington, DC, you instantly realise that you’ve landed in a different world. This is America: that place you’ve always seen on TV.

You take a bus through town and recognise the White House and the other monuments. You’ve seen them in films, heard them in songs. This is the heart of the United States. And when Inter descend on the US capital, something happens. That faraway world from the big screen and your mp3 player is suddenly right there before you. And it comes with two beautiful colours: black and blue.

It’s warm in DC, and so is the reception Inter are given by the US fans. There are lots of them too, all smiling despite the searing temperatures and clammy air. All here for the Nerazzurri.

Mazzarri’s boys only touched down a few hours ago and already they have a workout here at the Catholic University of America: Inter’s training base for their Guinness International Champions Cup preparations; a place Pope Benedict XVI visited in 2008 and Pope Francis is due to visit next year, around about this time.

It’s a huge campus, just as the spaces around it are huge. But the fans are right up close to their heroes, just a few metres away. So it’s easy for them to see club captain Andrea Ranocchia waving at the youngsters. Or Mauro Icardi, who before leaving Italy admitted that “no one likes losing, not even in friendlies”. That’s the right spirit. The sporting spirit, here in the land of fair play.

Yes, you’re tired. But you don’t mind because you’re here with Inter: brothers in the world. And ready for the International Champions Cup.

Good morning my friends.  It’s a lovely morning and I am super awake.  Are you getting ready to go to work? school? vacation?   Allow me to share a virtual cup of coffee or tea to share the headlines from Italy.  Wow, cowabunga!!!! Let me tell you, two contradictory thoughts.  First, I was jumping out of joy when reading the headline about AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi saying that coach Antonio Conte is the ideal coach for the Italian National team.  Second, PUFF! BAM!  There it goes the other headline showering me just like a cold bucket because it says that Conte is closer to sign for Paris Saint Germain!!!!  Come on, both options are ok for Conte, but if you ask me, right now Italy need Conte to rebuild the team and have it ready for the UEFA Euro 2016 after the disaster performance in the FIFA World Cup.

Now, hold on your horses… another mega headline is that of Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo.  Why?  Hello, hello, hello, get this one… the new Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri telephoning Pirlo apparently to get back in good terms after Allegri practically discarded him as no good while he was coaching AC Milan.  ….   Well, maybe this whole thing might be just plain marketing.  Pirlo saying he has no problems with Allegri and that he is with him, but what about Allegri… Hum? Really?   Your take guys?

Roma and AC Milan are in the United States!  Roma will play tonight against Premier League team Liverpool for a friendly game.  The Roman gladiators are getting ready for their debut in the International Champions Cup against Manchester United on Saturday 26…. by the way, you can check my coverage on Man U training  in Los Angeles  and Real Madrid training, Tuesday 22 July preparing for Inter and AS Roma.

I am just loving the buildup towards the Serie A 2014 – 2015.  Headlines showing Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis more than optimistic to win the Scudetto, but also AS Roma… Boy!  I cannot wait for the kickoff….  Honestly, I think both are strong candidates for the Scudetto…

After all the joyful news, there is a big black eye punch!!!! For who??? Well, it is for Juventus because their new signing Morata injured his knee and will be out at least for 50 days!  OUCH… problems for Allegri now to regroup …..
