Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Bologna, 6th position with 47 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Hellas Verona, 14th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -29

Hellas Verona lost the Serie A Week 28 match on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy.  It’s an important victory, Bologna made significant strides in their quest for European qualification with three key takeaways from the match. Bologna now sits at 50 points, while Verona remains at 26.   Bologna, under Vincenzo Italiano, is enjoying a strong season securing their third consecutive win at the Bentegodi, having only lost once in their last ten matches, with five wins and four draws.

The rossonlù managed to break the deadlock in the first half, with Jens Odgaard finding the net after a setup from Calabria. Verona faced a setback when Valentini received a second yellow card, leading to his dismissal.

Bologna extended their lead to 2-0 thanks to Cambiaghi, capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò. However, Verona responded quickly, narrowing the deficit in the 80th minute with a goal from the recently substituted Mosquera. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to prevent their fourth loss in five matches.

After suffering an away loss in Turin, Verona is eager to build on their recent home victory against Fiorentina from two weeks ago. The Gialloblù currently sit four points above the relegation zone, having recorded two wins and three losses in their last five matches.

Bologna gained the upper hand in the 40th minute when Jens Odgaard found the net with a precise left-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Davide Calabria provided the assist, showcasing his skill as he maneuvered across the field to set up Odgaard, who confidently slotted the ball past goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò into the far post!

🟥   Hellas Verona has been reduced to 10 players since the 70th minute when Nicolás Valentini received a red card for accumulating two yellow cards. The match score is Verona 0 – 1 Bologna.

Bologna extended their advantage in the 78th minute when Nicolò Cambiaghi found the net with a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner. The goal was set up by Benjamín Domínguez, who delivered a pass to Cambiaghi in the box. Although the shot from the former Empoli player wasn’t too threatening, Montipò mishandled it, allowing the ball to slip through his fingers and into the goal! The score now stands at Verona 0 – 2 Bologna.

Hellas Verona made it a tighter match in the 80th minute. Daniel Mosquera scored from close range, sending the ball into the bottom right corner and outsmarting goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski. The current score is Verona 1 – 2 Bologna.

✅     Stats before the game:

Following their 3-2 victory on December 30, Hellas Verona has the chance to secure both seasonal matches against Bologna in Serie A for the first time ever. The last time they managed to achieve back-to-back wins against the Felsinei in this tournament was between March and December 1978. Additionally, Hellas Verona remains unbeaten in their last five Serie A matches at the Bentegodi against Bologna, with a record of 2 wins and 3 draws. The last time the Emilians triumphed away against the Venetians in the top division was on November 20, 2017, when they won 3-2 under coach Roberto Donadoni.

Hellas Verona won their last home match of the championship against Fiorentina 1-0, the Scaligeri could obtain two consecutive home wins for the first time this Serie A season; in addition, the Gialloblù have not recorded two clean sheets in a row at the Bentegodi since January 2023.

Bologna have won their last two league matches against Milan and Cagliari, while the Rossoblù have only once achieved three wins in a row in this Serie A season: between October and November 2024 (against Cagliari, Lecce and Roma).
Bologna have won only one of their last seven league away games (D4, L2): 2-0 against Torino on 21 December. The Felsinei have remained dry in their last two away matches in Serie A and have not recorded three consecutive away games without a goal in the tournament since January 2021.

Only Roma (18) have scored more goals than Bologna (17) in 2025 in Serie A, while Hellas Verona are the team that has scored the fewest goals (three in nine games) in the new calendar year in the league.
Bologna have scored 42 goals in this championship, the last season in which the rossoblù scored more after 27 Serie A games dates back to 1996/97 (43) – in the last tournament, at this point of the season the rossoblù had scored 41 goals.

✅   What’s happening in Round 28?

We’re gearing up for an exciting Round! The race for the Scudetto is definitely heating up. Inter is currently leading with 61 points, just a notch above Napoli at 60 points, and three points ahead of Atalanta, who sits at 58 points. The stakes are high for Napoli to reclaim the top spot, while Inter aims to widen their lead. Meanwhile, Napoli is facing a tough stretch, having gone five games without a win, still on the hunt for a victory that has slipped away for over a month.

Inter achieved a stunning 3-2 comeback victory against Monza in an exciting match. This win is vital for Inter as they maintain their lead in the standings with 61 points.  Monza started strong, with Birindelli scoring in the 32nd minute and Keita doubling the lead just before halftime. However, Arnautovic’s header in the 46th minute sparked Inter’s comeback. In the second half, Calhanoglu scored the winning goal in the 64th minute, and an own goal by Kyriakopoulos in the 77th minute sealed the match.  On the other hand, Monza is desperate for a victory to boost their chances of survival, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 14 points.

Milan staged an impressive comeback, turning a 0-2 deficit into a thrilling 3-2 victory. Krstović scored twice to bring them back into the game, while Captain America, Christian Pulisic, netted two goals, and Gallo contributed with an own goal. This win not only ends Milan’s three-match losing streak but also boosts them to 44 points. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi stay in 16th place with 25 points.

Cagliari and Genoa are set to clash today in their 50th Serie A match. The historical record reveals 17 wins for Cagliari, 19 for Genoa, and 13 draws between the two teams.

Parma and Torino ended with a draw at the Ennio Tardini Stadium.  Parma and Torino each earned a point, allowing Parma to pull two points ahead of Empoli. Meanwhile, Torino couldn’t narrow the gap with Udinese, who sits in tenth place, four points clear of the Granata and still has a game in hand.

Empoli, fighting hard to avoid relegation, lost against Roma.  The Roman gladiators are still pushing forward in their quest for a spot in the European zone. Currently, they sit in 7th place with 46 points, while Bologna holds the 6th position with 50 points. In their latest match, Roma secured a victory against Empoli, thanks to a goal from Soulé just one minute in. The team maintained control throughout the game, hitting both the post and the crossbar, but they faced a scare at the very end when Konate’s header narrowly missed the target.

Venezia has secured their third consecutive draw, following matches against Lazio and Atalanta. This point is significant for Di Francesco’s squad, as they now sit three points ahead of Empoli with a game in hand. Meanwhile, Como is struggling to close the gap on Genoa, who remain three points ahead. The match between Como and Venezia ended in a 1-1 draw, showcasing plenty of chances, particularly highlighted by the standout performance of MVP Radu. Goalkeepers were the stars of the show at Sinigaglia, with Butez making crucial saves against Duncan in the first half, while Radu kept Como at bay. Ikoné opened the scoring early in the second half and nearly added another, but a late penalty from Gytkjaer, following a foul on Carboni, ensured the teams shared the points.
