Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 13th position with 7 points and a negative goal difference of -1
Genoa, 17th position with 5 points and a negative goal difference of -6
Atalanta is eager to secure a win in their Serie A Week 7 match against Genoa on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. Currently sitting in 13th place with 7 points, they are only 2 points ahead of Genoa. Atalanta’s goal is to break into the European zone, making this victory essential for their climb up the standings.
Since Gian Piero Gasperini took over as coach of Atalanta (since 2016/17), the Goddess has won nine Serie A games against Genoa (D4, L1) and has only done better against two teams in that period: 10 wins against Bologna and 12 against Sassuolo.
✅ Stats before the game:
Atalanta have kept a clean sheet in their last three home games against Genoa in Serie A and have never managed four consecutive home clean sheets against their opponents (three between April 1990 and March 1992).
Atalanta have lost four of their last seven league games (W2, D1), as many defeats as in their previous 23 Serie A games (W15, D4).
As for goals, Atalanta have scored in their last 18 home league games and for the Bergamo club this is their best home run in Serie A since 1997, when they stopped at 18: with one goal it would be the all-time record for the Goddess in the tournament.
Genoa have lost three of their last four games in Serie A (1D), as many defeats as in their previous 13 (5W, 5D); in particular, the rossoblù have lost their two most recent ones and have not lost three in a row in a single top-flight championship since April 2022.

Between 2007 and 2016, Gian Piero Gasperini played 232 Serie A games as Genoa coach, with 88 wins, 59 draws and 85 defeats. With two goals, Atalanta will reach 600 goals under the guidance of the Piedmontese coach and the only coach to have done better with a single team in the tournament was Giovanni Trapattoni at Juventus (631 goals).
Atalanta is – on par with Parma – one of the two worst defenses of the current championship: 12 goals conceded by the Bergamo team in these first six matchdays, all accumulated in the first 60 minutes of play. At this point in the 23/24 tournament, the Bergamo team had conceded five goals.
In the last two Serie A matches against Venezia and Juventus, Genoa have conceded five goals out of five in the second half: only Parma (10) have conceded more goals in the second half than the Ligurians so far (eight).
Players Stats
Mateo Retegui has already scored four goals in six appearances in this championship, three fewer than he did in 29 games with Genoa in 2023/24 – in the period with Gasperini at Atalanta (from 2016/17) the only one to do better in the first six games with the Goddess in Serie A was Luis Muriel (five goals, plus a hat-trick in the seventh), while Franck Kessie also reached four.
Atalanta is the team against which Andrea Pinamonti has played the most minutes in Serie A without ever scoring: 612 distributed in eight games, without any goals and no winning assists.
