REMEMBERING BORGONOVO AGAINST CESENA

Stefano Borgonovo played his part in matches between Milan and Cesena.

MILAN – Football Data statistics show that in the 12 meetings at the San Siro between Milan and Cesena, the Rossoneri have yet to lose: winning nine, the last a 1-0 in 2011-12 and three draws, the last a goalless outcome in 1988-89.The largest scoring margin has been 3-0 which has occurred on four occasions: at home in the league 1974/75, 1987/88 and 1989/90, at the “Manuzzi in Serie A in 1989/90.

Interestingly, in a friendly on February 22, 1989, 26 years before Milan-Cesena on Sunday, between Italy and Denmark, Stefano Borgonovo came on for Gianluca Vialli on 74 minutes of a 1-0 win where Bergomi scored.

Borgonovo passed away June 27, 2013, the victim of ALS, a disease that he saw the player practically immobilized for a long time. Today his wife Chantal and family are at the forefront in research with the “Fondazione Borgonovo”. Borgonovo, who played for the Rossoneri in the 1989/90 season, also scored at Cesena, on August 27, 1989, in a 3-0 win.

Cesena is the formation of the more unfortunate team in the 2014/15 season, having already scored four own goals: authors Nica (against Sampdoria), Volta (Genoa), Capelli (Naples) and Cascione (Parma).

The side from Romagna have also conceded 12 goals in the last 15 minutes of matches this season.

Hello my friends. Here are the Serie A RESULTS for Week 23 on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 February, 2015.   In this round, a step back for AS Roma failing to defeat Parma at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.  Roma were obliged to win considering Parma are the last team in the Table.   Parma despite the 1 point remain in the last position.

In this round we had 2 games ending with a 1 -1 result:  AC Milan vs Empoli, Torino vs Cagliari.

Another draw …. Surprise at the Dino Manuzzi Stadium with Cesena opening the score against Juventus in the 18th minute with forward Milan Djuric.  Juventus reacting and take the lead after the goals by Alvaro Morata and Claudio Marchisio.  Cesena not giving up and equalize in the 70th minute with midfielder Franco Brienza.   Bottom line, Juventus and AS Roma draw and the gap for the Scudetto remaining +7 in favor of Juventus.

Another blow is for AC Milan ending the match among boos and fans protesting.  Milan failing to defeat Empoli at the San Siro Stadium.  The only positive point of the match might be the first goal as a Milan player by forward Mattia Destro.

The game with more goals Genoa 5 -2 Hellas Verona.  Genoa rocking at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium dominating Verona.  A brave stand by Verona forward Luca Toni scoring 2 goals, but not enough to claim a draw.  It’s a convincing victory by Genoa delighting the fans.

Super day for Inter crushing Atalanta at the Atleti Azzurri D’Italia Stadium with a 1-4.

The top scorer up to Round 23: Juventus forward Carlos Tevez with 14 goals followed by Inter forward Mauro Icardi with 13 goals

Taking care of business is Juventus forward in the 27th minute.  Morata equalizes the score defeating Cesena goalkeeper Nicola Leali with a headed shot in the top left corner.  The assist is by midfielder Paul Pogba.  It’s the 6th goal for Morata in this season.

Just when everybody, well, when “almost” everybody thought the game was over and the persistence paying off.   Cesena equalizing the score in the 70th minute with midfielder Franco Brienza defeating goalkeeper Buffon with a left footed shot.

Referee Carmine Russo sending off Cesena Coach Domenico Di Carlo in the 81st minute for protesting after the penalty given to Juventus.  Here is the situation.  Di Carlo first remove his jacket, then keeping protesting and walking towards the fourth official while protesting.. closeup showing Referee Russo watching the situation and he walks towards Di Carlo to send him off.   Di Carlo had to leave the field and still protesting goes to the tribune…..     It might be a divine intervention or not, but Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal failing to convert the penalty!!!!!   Vidal  right footed shot misses to the left!!!!!  A roaring ovation by Cesena fans ….  while Vidal cannot believe his luck!
