Great test for the Italian National Team in the friendly game against Fluminense on Sunday 8 June 2014 in Brazil.  Italy scoring 5 goals against the 3 by Fluminense.   Surely, you bet Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli has a better idea now to present his starting lineup in the first World Cup game on Saturday 14 June 2014 against England at the Arena Amazonia in Manaus, Brazil.

Getting to know our players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s time to meet Defender Matteo Darmian.

Matteo Darmian was born in Legnano in 1989 and spent his youth career with AC Milan.   Darmian eventually became captain of the U20 team. Darmian made his top flight debut on the 28th of November 2006 in an Italian Cup match against Brescia, aged 17.

After spells with Padova and Palermo he moved to Torino in 2011 and was promoted with the side to Serie A. He mostly played under coach Ventura as a right back, but was also deployed on the opposite flank.

Darmian has played for Italy’s U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 sides. Manager Cesare Prandelli selected him for a training camp in March 2014 and for athletic trials the following month. He was part of the 30-man preliminary squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Getting to know our players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s time to meet Defender Ignazio Abate.

Ignazio Abate was born in 1986 and spent his youth with AC Milan as a winger. After five seasons in various parts of Italy, he moved back to AC Milan, where he began to play as right back. He won the Serie A and an Italian Supercup with the Rossoneri.

Abate has represented Italy at several youth levels and also played for the Olympic team. He won the Toulon Tournament in 2008. He made his senior team debut under Cesare Prandelli in a friendly against Poland on 11th November 2011 (2-0 for the Azzurri). He scored his first goal for Italy on 15th November 2013 in Milan in a friendly against Germany (1-1). He is in the 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Getting to know our players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s time to meet Defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Leonardo Bonucci was born in Viterbo, Italy on 1st May 1987. He spent his youth with Inter and made his Serie A debut in 2006. After spells with Treviso, Pisa and Bari, he moved to Juventus in July 2010 and has since won three consecutive Serie A titles (2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014).

Bonucci made his debut for Italy on 3rd March 2010 in Montecarlo, during a friendly against Cameroon, and scored his first goal in the following match against Mexico in Brussels.

He was part of Marcello Lippi’s squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He was also part of Cesare Prandelli’s squad for UEFA Euro 2012 in Poland-Ukraine and for the 2013 Confederations Cup.

Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli  has chosen the 23 official players to participate in the FIFA 2014 World Cup Brazil.   Italy National Team will travel to Brazil on Thursday 5 June 2014.   The extra player remaining in case of injury is Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia as established by FIFA regulations.  Italy are in Group D along England, Costa Rica and Uruguay.
