Italian Soccer Serie A Supports 100% Italy Team
Getting to know our players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s time to meet Defender Ignazio Abate.
Ignazio Abate was born in 1986 and spent his youth with AC Milan as a winger. After five seasons in various parts of Italy, he moved back to AC Milan, where he began to play as right back. He won the Serie A and an Italian Supercup with the Rossoneri.
Abate has represented Italy at several youth levels and also played for the Olympic team. He won the Toulon Tournament in 2008. He made his senior team debut under Cesare Prandelli in a friendly against Poland on 11th November 2011 (2-0 for the Azzurri). He scored his first goal for Italy on 15th November 2013 in Milan in a friendly against Germany (1-1). He is in the 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
