Getting to know our players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It’s time to meet Defender Matteo Darmian.
Matteo Darmian was born in Legnano in 1989 and spent his youth career with AC Milan. Darmian eventually became captain of the U20 team. Darmian made his top flight debut on the 28th of November 2006 in an Italian Cup match against Brescia, aged 17.
After spells with Padova and Palermo he moved to Torino in 2011 and was promoted with the side to Serie A. He mostly played under coach Ventura as a right back, but was also deployed on the opposite flank.
Darmian has played for Italy’s U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 sides. Manager Cesare Prandelli selected him for a training camp in March 2014 and for athletic trials the following month. He was part of the 30-man preliminary squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
