GASPERINI: “Non la miglior prestazione, ma 8ª vittoria”

L’Atalanta supera di misura il Cagliari e inanella la sua ottava vittoria consecutiva in campionato ritoccando il suo record, realizza il suo gol numero 100 in stagione e consolida il quarto posto portandosi ad una sola lunghezza di ritardo dall’Inter e a cinque dalla Lazio rispettivamente terza e seconda in classifica.

“Abbiamo tenuto aperta una partita che avremmo dovuto chiudere molto prima – dichiara a fine match l’allenatore nerazzurro Gian Piero Gasperini -. Abbiamo fatto indubbiamente bene il primo tempo, poi, in superiorità numerica, non siamo stati più lucidi e precisi nelle conclusioni nonostante avessimo la possibilità di chiudere il match che si è trascinato stancamente sino alla fine”.

“Non è stata la nostra miglior prestazione – prosegue il tecnico nerazzurro -, però abbiamo conquistato l’ottava vittoria di fila in Serie A. Forse la partita contro il Napoli ha pesato, il viaggio, stiamo giocando ogni tre giorni… Ma questi sono un po’ di alibi, dovevamo chiuderla meglio, forse abbiamo denunciato per la prima volta un po’ di fatica mentale”.

Gian Piero Gasperini ribadisce i principali obiettivi di stagione dell’Atalanta che sono quelli di chiudere la classifica in una posizione che permetta all’Atalanta di giocare in Champions League anche la prossima stagione e stabilire il nuovo record di punti. Oltre che prepararsi bene per le prossime Final Eight di UCL in calendario ad agosto. Il tecnico è poi soddisfatto dell’apporto di Tameze e Šutalo, schierati dal 1° minuto contro il Cagliari, ed anche di quanto proposto da Iličić.

Adesso il rientro a Bergamo e subito testa ai prossimi impegni, quello imminente è già mercoledì al Gewiss Stadium dove per l’occasione sarà ospite la Sampdoria.

IL BOLOGNA PASSA A SAN SIRO

Grande prestazione del Bologna che rimonta l'Inter e passa 2 – 1 a San Siro. Vantaggio casalingo al 22' quando Lukaku riprende, solo davanti alla porta, la respinta del palo colpito da Lautaro di testa per depositare in porta. L'Inter pare in controllo della partita, soprattutto quando Soriano viene espulso al 57', anche se poco prima Barrow aveva colpito il palo. Lautaro al 62' potrebbe indirizzare il match verso la vittoria nerazzurra, ma dal dischetto si fa respingere il calcio di rigore assegnato per atterramento di Candreva. Al 74' Juwara, approfittando di un liscio difensivo di Gagliardini, supera Handanovic con una conclusione dal limite che porta gli ospiti sull'1 – 1. Poco dopo si ristabilisce anche la parità numerica con il doppio giallo rimediato da Bastoni. Il Bologna ci crede e a dieci dal termine, con l'imprendibile Barrow, realizza il gol della vittoria. Inter che non approfitta dello stop della Lazio, mentre il Bologna resta in corsa per il settimo posto che garantisce l'accesso ai preliminari di Europa League.

Iachini on defeat to Sassuolo

Beppe Iachini admitted that mistakes cost his side as Fiorentina were beaten 3-1 at home by Sassuolo on Wednesday night.

“We had two chances to take the lead, when we were one on one with the goalkeeper, but then we made at least two bad mistakes: on the penalty – we needed to try and buy some time there – and on the third goal,” said Iachini, speaking in his post-match press conference.

“When you make two mistakes like those, it turns the match into an uphill struggle. The team kept playing and stayed in the game – we had 13 shots on goal and hit the woodwork,” he continued. “We had the chances to equalise and then to cut the deficit. We pushed hard and pressed them high up the field, so in that respect the team kept looking for the result right until the end. Our finishing was off, as it has been since the restart – we had lots of shots and had good possession, so we laid the foundations for us to take the game where we wanted it to go. Sadly, there were also a couple of individual mistakes in there which have ended up costing us dear in this game.”
Fiorentina lined up with Chiesa playing through the middle against Sassuolo – and Iachini insisted that the side created enough chances to justify his team selection.
“Federico had two good chances in the first half – for the first one the keeper did well and we weren’t able to score, then for the second he fired over,” he said. “We had other chances in the first half through [Gaetano] Castrovilli and [Franck] Ribery and then we had several shots in the second half, without finding the target. That’s something we’ve seen in these initial games back.”
The result leaves Fiorentina in 13th place in Serie A, with Iachini pointing to missed chances as the reason behind the Viola’s disappointing league standing.
“We should have more points than we did, based on how we did before and also on how we’ve done since the resumption,” he said. “We had 21 shots against Brescia, we had several chances to make it 2-0 against Lazio, we hit the woodwork… Today the match took a bad turn because of two mistakes and that made it harder. We need to look to the future, turn the page and focus on our next game straight away.”

In light of recent media reports in Italy, Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has released the following statement:

“I keep on hearing and seeing new coaches and new players being linked with Fiorentina. Up until two days ago everyone was saying we had decided on a new coach, then last night yet another coach was said to have been chosen by me and the club.

“When I first joined during the transfer window I said I was amazed at all the fake news I was seeing and hearing about.

“At such a crucial and difficult stage of the season, I think these constant reports about supposed decisions I have made to replace this or that person do nothing but harm Fiorentina and our fans. I have not been in contact with anyone – by email, telephone or in person – and as the final decision is always mine I find it quite incredible that these fake stories keep appearing.

“People who do not have the best interests of Fiorentina and our fans at heart are tying to destabilize the club but we remain compact and we will continue on our path until the end of the season.

“Then of course, as I’ve always said, we will take stock and make our decisions with next season in mind. However, as Joe Barone reiterated yesterday, right now we are focused solely on ending the current campaign as well as possible with everybody’s full commitment to the cause and with our full support for the coach, the coaching staff and the players.”
