It took Real Madrid 86 minutes to break Atalanta. It is Ferland Mendy to defeat Atalanta goalkeeper with a right footed shot in the bottom right corner. The assist is by Luka Modric after a corner conceded by Rafael Toloi.

  • Stats before the game:  It is the first official match between Atalanta and Real Madrid.  Atalanta have only one precedent against Spanish team in European competitions; in the round of 16 last season, against Valencia, won by Atalanta with an aggregate result of 8-4.  Real Madrid have won all of their last 5 Champions League away matches against Italian teams (12 goals scored, 1 conceded), while in the previous 16 away games in Italy they had only 3 wins.  Atalanta, who reached the quarter-finals last season, are the first team to reach the Champions League knockout stage in both their first two tournaments since Sevilla did, in 2007/08 and 2009 / 10.  Real Madrid have scored in all of their last 19 games against Italian teams – the last Italian against which they have lost is Juventus, in November 2008 (0-2). Real Madrid have reached the knockout stage of the Champions League for the 24th consecutive season, the longest series in the history of the competition. The last time they failed to reach this stage was in 1996/97 – which was also the last season in which he did not take part in European competition.  Atalanta are the only team among the qualifiers for the round of 16 that have not yet won a home match in this Champions League season (2N, 1L).  None of Atalanta’s 15 Champions League matches ended with a goalless goal. Since the beginning of last season, Atalanta have scored 53 goals (27 in favor, 26 against), an average of 3.5 per game.
